Responsibilities Manage the Medicines Management Service on a daily basis at allocated prison. Manage medicines administration and coordinate the repeat prescription process. Administer medicines to offenders against valid prescriptions on house blocks. Supervise junior medicine management staff. Provide a medicines management service with professional support from a prison services pharmacist. Oversee the ordering/supply of repeat prescriptions. Utilise stock supplies and out‑of‑hours supplies when patients' own medication is not available. Hold accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines optimiser. Maintain high standards of work and ensure SOPs are read and adhered to. Facilitate medication supply on repeat prescriptions using System1; task GP’s/NMP’s to generate repeat prescriptions, ensure they are signed and handed to the pharmacy promptly. Supervise and assist primary care staff to ensure prompt medicine administration times are adhered to. Advise patients on medication adherence, including inhaler technique, drug interactions, mechanisms of action, normal doses, and side effects. Ensure all SOPs, Oxleas and Oxleas Prison Services Policies (Standards of Medicine Management, IP Policy, Homely Remedies Policy) are read, understood, and adhered to. Use BNF, BNF‑e, e‑MC, Medicines information line and other recognised sources to support patient adherence and compliance. Escalate concerns about patients and their medication (including non‑compliance) to appropriate staff within confidentiality guidelines. Order, monitor and maintain legal paperwork for controlled drugs in accordance with local policy. Manage cool chain: conduct daily fridge temperature checks, record findings, and report breaches per SOP/Policy. Document patient medication information (non‑compliance, allergies, concerns) in System1. Create ledgers and call‑up lists in System1 for patient daily medicines administration. Maintain meticulous paper records and ensure all policies and protocols are documented on System1. Administer medicines to offenders safely and promptly on house blocks or healthcare using System1. Report incidents or concerns using Datix. Use and understand the Critical Medication List; administer critical medication when required and report concerns/non‑compliance. Manage the entire medicines management process at the dedicated prison. Coordinate repeat prescriptions. Supervise Band 5 MM technicians and complete supervision, PDR appraisals and objectives with guidance from senior pharmacy managers. Develop and implement SOPs that impact the area of work. Review and share lessons learned from Datix reports. Organise delivery of training, support new staff with inductions. Liaise with the admin team for Cardea ordering. Assist with annual appraisals of Band 5 MM technicians and support primary care team training. Mentor and train medicines optimisation staff using specialist knowledge and experience. Develop personal development plans for junior staff, manage performance issues, and ensure mandatory training is completed. Provide medication administration services under the professional supervision of a pharmacist. Conduct monthly clinical visits to allocated prisons and undertake a stock‑top‑up service for all medicine storage areas. Review expiry dates and storage facilities; report deficiencies to the prison service pharmacist. Assist the prison service pharmacist in providing medication advice to prisoners and staff. Undertake controlled‑drug stock checks quarterly, report issues to Lead Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacist under Oxleas Prisons Pharmacy (OPS). Undertake monthly medicines‑management audits using the AIM electronic system under OPS supervision. Promote healthy lifestyles for offenders per local and national guidelines. Recognise clinical signs of withdrawal, overdose, and be aware of medication omissions for clinical reasons. Complete risk assessment (IPRA) and adhere to monitoring policies. Adhere to ACCT policies, attend review meetings. Deliver accurate and timely record keeping with basic keyboard skills using System1 templates. Maintain ongoing professional development (CPD) and self‑development within pharmacy or relevant specialty. Support junior staff with clinical issues or concerns in a leadership role. Share lessons learned from incidents. Develop and maintain analytical skills and professional judgment to support junior colleagues. Participate in clinical and departmental audits as required. Participate in quality improvement projects. Develop and lead on implementation of new ideas and updates to SOPs. Respond to incidents, security, injury or other reports as appropriate; report breaches of order and discipline. Contribute to effective risk assessment and management procedures.
