Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer

Salary/Hourly Rate: £44,041 - £66,467 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, 07:30 to 16:00
Location & Postcode: EnviRecover, DY10 4JD

As a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for ensuring that plant instrumentation and systems are maintained in accordance with the O&M manual, ensuring calibration and compliance with statutory standards, and leading a team of C&I Technicians. You will plan and execute scheduled maintenance outages, respond to unscheduled breakdowns, manage budgets, and deliver upgrades and new installation projects in a challenging EfW facility environment.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?

- Ensuring all Controls and Instrumentation are correctly operated, maintained, tested, and calibrated to statutory requirements.
- Managing and developing a team of C&I Technicians.
- Using site Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to enable defect interrogation, rectification, efficient plant control and enable simulations or forces where required.
- Using site Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and working closely with the Environmental Department to ensure adherence to site and statutory obligations.
- Planning & overseeing maintenance, calibration, and testing contracts for specialist equipment (CEMS, DCS, Water Treatment, Security, CCTV, Industrial Control Systems, etc.).
- Supporting the Maintenance Manager with audits, procurement, and compliance.
- Developing obsolescence plans for control systems and instrumentation.
- Supporting cyber security, software baselining, and back-ups.
- Providing emergency repair services and supporting other engineering teams as required.
- Investigating faults and ensuring timely rectification.
- Completing training and occasional travel to other sites.

What are we looking for?

- Qualified Controls & Instrumentation Engineer (minimum Higher National Certificate)
- At least five years’ relevant post-qualification experience
- Broad experience of process control systems
- Experience with, and knowledge of, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Experience managing a team and multiple contractors/maintenance contracts
- Ideally, from a power station, process plant, or similar background
- Excellent problem-solving skills and self-discipline/ability to work independently
- Satisfactory completion of relevant Competency Management System modules and all other required training
