Lead Mechanical Fitter/Engineer – Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital contract This is a permanent full‑time role (40 hours per week) offering a competitive salary and benefits package. We are a Bouygues group company. General Overview Carry out maintenance, repairs and inspection of mechanical building services in accordance with relevant standards, legislation and guidance. Represent the company respectfully and professionally. Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical and associated building services following the PPM programme and personal competence and training. Respond promptly to ad‑hoc breakdown requests as identified by supervisor/manager or in accordance with the site contract. Assist with installation work for minor upgrades and adaptation works. Conduct systematic fault finding on malfunctioning equipment in a logical and safe manner. Operate all types of access equipment, hand and power tools safely, following health & safety and manufacturers' guidelines. Use and maintain correct personal protective equipment and adhere to health & safety and infection control procedures. Maintain records (written or electronic) as required. Willingness to work flexibly with other trades and colleagues. After a qualifying period, take part in the call‑out/stand‑by rota. Coordinate with wards and departments to minimise disruption while carrying out work. Undertake training to develop required skills and keep up to date with service requirements. Carry out risk assessments on site as instructed by supervisor/manager. Collaborate and cooperate with partners and colleagues to deliver a customer‑focused service. Use initiative to make appropriate decisions, even when working out of hours. Complete all job cards and other required paperwork to the required standard. Complete work within allotted timeframes. Perform any other identified tasks commensurate with the role. Additional Skills Technical knowledge of steam boilers and related equipment. Technical advice and problem‑solving on water systems and heating issues. Experience with laundry/lifecycle planning and input. Impact The Maintenance Engineer carries out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the healthcare estate, meeting statutory and contractual obligations while delivering an excellent service to our customers. Complexity The engineer works on duties for which they are trained and competent. On‑site estates management offers specialised technical advice and liaises with appropriate management levels to facilitate specialist isolations required for certain engineering works. Qualifications or Required Experience Previous experience within a maintenance environment. NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Services or equivalent. Experience working on or with AHUs, FCUs, LTHW, pumps, pipework, valves, chilled and portable water systems, and water hygiene systems. Pipe fitting experience (desirable). Experience with PPM and reactive work. Authorised Person in Mechanical Systems. Experience on steam systems (desirable). Experience on plumbing systems. What Can We Offer You?
