Events Sous Chef – National Theatre, South Bank – £42,000 | 40 hours | Permanent – London, England, United Kingdom The Role: Events Sous Chef As our Events Sous Chef, you’ll be right at the beating heart of our events operation – from intimate press nights to large, high‑energy commercial events. You’ll bring ideas, technique, and passion to everything you touch. Working closely with our Head Chef, you’ll help shape menus, elevate flavours, lead the team with confidence, and ensure every guest – whether they’re an artist, donor, audience member, or VIP – feels the care that went into their dish. What You’ll Be Doing As Events Sous Chef Creating beautiful food for a wide range of events – thoughtfully planned, brilliantly executed. Inspiring, supporting, and leading the culinary team to deliver consistent, high‑quality dishes. Working alongside the Head Chef to develop menus, manage stock, and keep the kitchen running smoothly. Stepping up confidently to run the kitchen when needed. Championing food safety, allergen awareness, and best practice across the kitchen. Leading training and onboarding for permanent and temporary chefs. Ensuring equipment, stock, and prep are always event‑ready. Playing a hands‑on role in making every service feel seamless. Who You Are Creative – You love playing with ideas and flavours, and you bring passion to every plate. Confident – You can lead a team, run a section, and deliver for events of 200+ covers with ease. Detail‑driven – You’re organised, reliable, and make sure the small things are done right. Flexible – You thrive in a dynamic, ever‑changing environment with lots happening at once. Safety‑led – You know your HACCP, allergens, and H&S inside out – and lead by example. Commercially aware – You understand stock, wastage, and staffing, and know how to balance quality with efficiency.
