Join to apply for the Deputy Ward Manager role at Whittington Health The post holder will be a qualified nurse and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with an up‑to‑date PIN number. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development of programmes of care and their implementation and evaluation. The post holder is also expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, and will be required to demonstrate procedures to, and supervise qualified and unqualified staff. The post holder will contribute to the overall good of the organisation by being a positive role model and treating all staff, visitors and service users with courtesy. The post holder will be allocated to the Acute Assessment Unit. It is expected that the post holder will be able to carry out all duties listed in the main duty section below. The duties will vary from ward to ward, and may include other similar duties in support of the ward environment that are not listed. No duties are to be undertaken by the post holder unless they have received the appropriate training. Clinical Responsibilities Regularly co‑coordinate the ward, and support junior nurses in ward coordination. Adopt a ‘hands on’ approach to assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Act as a clinical resource for the ward team. Encourage and promote the use of evidence‑based clinical nursing practice. Managerial Responsibilities Assist the Ward Manager in co‑ordinating available unit resources to produce a cost‑effective and efficient care environment. Assure that all staff (including bank and agency staff) work efficiently. Ensure that all clinical practices are in accordance with NMC advisory documentation. Educational Responsibilities Acquire new skills and knowledge to enable new management systems to work (e.g., computer skills, budget management). Identify own educational needs with the Ward Manager. Act as a mentor to all staff and as a preceptor to newly qualified staff. Actively participate in teaching and supervision and direction of nurses. Help plan the orientation of new staff. Be responsible for own professional development, in line with NMC guidelines.
