Opportunity: Principal Highways EngineerLocation: Greater ManchesterRate: Negotiable and CompetitiveDuration: 6 months +IR35: Inside We are seeking two Principal Highways Engineers to support with leading and delivering high-quality highways design and construction projects. You will manage complex programmes, oversee budgets, drive project delivery, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and sustainably. Responsibilities Lead the planning, design, and delivery of highways projects from the detailed design stage. Manage project budgets, resources, and programmes to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Provide technical leadership and expert advice on highway engineering standards, design, and construction techniques. Mentor, develop, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Work closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, and statutory bodies to ensure successful project delivery. Drive continuous improvement in project management, design practices, and delivery processes. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies. Requirements Incorporated or near Chartered Engineer status is (IEng/CEng) in Civil Engineering or related discipline is desirable. Significant experience leading and delivering highways or infrastructure projects. Proven track record of managing programmes, budgets, and multi‑disciplinary teams. Strong knowledge of highways design standards, project management methodologies, and construction practices. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment. Knowledge of sustainable transport and highway innovation initiatives.
