Job overviewThis is an exciting opportunity for an Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Clinical Nurse Specialist position. As an Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI)/HPB Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will become an integral part of our workforce and form part of our vision for achieving excellence, working alongside other UGI CNS across sites at MFT.
The post holder will provide expert care and advice management, be motivated, enthusiastic and willing to work as part of the UGI nursing service to deliver specialist nursing care for patients diagnosed with UGI cancer through treatment and follow up. The successful candidate will work autonomously to review referrals, select appropriate investigations, and manage results, with the support of medical colleagues.
You will have extensive experience as a band 6 UGI nurse and demonstrate effective leadership.
The service is based across 4 hospitals in Greater Manchester; this post will be based at Wythenshawe Hospital but may require cross-site working.
Main duties of the jobThe ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to deal with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person in a polite and compassionate manner.
You will liaise with all members of the MDT to facilitate the teaching of ward staff, patients, families and carers of all aspects of UGI/HPB disease. You will also be expected, in conjunction with the audit team, to record data, compile results, and present them to relevant members of the MDT. You must be a dynamic, flexible individual with advanced IT, administrative and organisational skills, ideally with a minimum of two years' experience in UGI/HPB nursing and a keen interest in developing your clinical skills and knowledge.

Person specificationQualifications- Registered Nurse
- Relevant Health degree/working towards
- Qualified in speciality
- Non-Medical prescribing or willingness to undertake
- Masters or working towards masters in related subject
- Teaching qualification
- Significant experience in relevant clinical specialty
- Portfolio of evidence showing achievements in practice/speciality
- Significant evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff and patient groups
- Evidence of presentations at local, regional, national level.
- Negotiating and influencing skills
- Ability to make calm and rational decisions in the face of adversity
- Evidence of risk management activities
- Able to demonstrate contribution of nursing role to clinical governance
- Advanced communication skills training or a willingness to undertake
- Strong analytical skills and ability to consider the wider picture
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
