This role is pivotal in managing hazardous substances, such as Asbestos, Legionella, Radon, Environmental and general Health & Safety compliance to ensure we meet our legal and moral obligations, safeguard colleague safety, and support our continuous performance improvement goals. The role holder is essential in proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including our strategic alliance partners, to manage these risks effectively. Additionally, they play a vital role in the successful delivery of high-risk HSE programmes and workstreams, whilst continuously identifying improvement opportunities. This role will help to ensure that we effectively manage our HSE risks presented through the use of our buildings and work activities undertaken by our colleagues and provide assurance to the business that all the required standards are met. Proactive engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including our strategic alliance partners, will be needed to monitor performance in these areas and identify opportunities for continual improvement. You will be tasked to take timely and appropriate steps to identify any areas of weakness or poor performance through assurance, as well as driving continual improvement to support our HSE and welfare objectives which enhance our brand and maintain our ability to do business with key customers. What you'll be doing Governance and Oversight: Leading the development and implementation of HSE compliance frameworks, including ISO45001 and ISO14001. System Management: Build and manage HSE management system to form the foundation of effective governance across all HSE compliance workstreams. Programme Delivery: Driving compliance assurance of high-risk HSE programmes such as Radon, Legionella, Flat Roofs, Waste Water, Asbestos and Environmental management across BT's diverse property estate (~8,000 sites) Data and MI Utilisation: Using management information to proactively identify risks and trends, and inform strategic decision-making. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with internal teams, strategic alliance partners (e.g. CBRE, HSE consultants), and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and continuous improvement Policy and Process Development: Ensuring all HSE policies and procedures are current, effective, and aligned with statutory and business requirements. Enhancing P&FS / BT's Safety Culture: Lead the integration of HSE into transformational and operational strategies across the organisation; promoting a safety-first culture through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll have the following skills and experience Identifying solutions - You help to identify straightforward solutions that will help to improve our management of HSE. You develop your understanding of our property portfolio and knowledge of the latest technology to help us meet our objectives. Give specialised advice - You offer advice and recommendations based on your expertise both proactively and on request. Stakeholder engagement - You will be able to engage effectively with external and internal stakeholders to drive performance and raise awareness of waste and natural environment controls. Understanding of regulatory framework - You will have a good understanding and application of all relevant regulatory and assurance frameworks, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. Contract and supplier management - You will be able to effectively drive our strategic partners to support the delivery of our HSE objectives. Professional qualifications - You will hold a relevant professional level 6 qualification in safety (such as NEBOSH Diploma) and hold full membership with a recognised professional body (IOSH). It is also desirable that you will have an environmental related qualification, such as IEMA Certificate.
