The Estates team has over 250 colleagues, working across all of our sites on everything from the refurbishment of buildings to catering. This is a highly technical position within the University’s Electrical Team, which is responsible for compliance, reactive and planned maintenance, as well as small project work. You will be responsible for the most complex electrical works and projects, and will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Estates Direct Labour Organisation (DLO), including the Engineering Department, as well as contractors, suppliers, and other University departments. You will play a key role in supporting the Mechanical and Electrical Senior Supervisor to drive standardisation and achieve optimal energy efficiency across plant equipment within the University’s portfolio. Upon completion of your probation period, you will be required to take part in the On‑call Rota. The work pattern for this role will be 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday, with flexibility required at times to ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained, for example during the winter months when the gritting of pathways is essential. The anticipated interview date will be in January 2026. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrical professional to join our team. You will hold a clean, current driving licence and possess recognised industry qualifications, including City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 and Level 3 in Electrical Installations (or equivalent), as well as City & Guilds 2382-18 18th Edition BS 7671 Wiring Regulations. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working within a multi‑disciplinary environment and across large estates, delivering maintenance services in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Strong technical knowledge of statutory legislation governing facilities maintenance and electrical systems is essential. You will be IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and demonstrate the ability to manage operational activity effectively while ensuring compliance and safety standards are met. Carry out all works to Joint Industry Board approved standards, compliant with relevant Health and Safety (H&S) and Statutory requirements pertinent to the electrical regulations. Undertake tasks assigned via the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system and ensure they are updated/completed appropriately and in a timely manner to meet Service Level Agreement (SLA) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Identify and quantify materials required to undertake work requests to ensure materials are ordered in a timely fashion. Monitor plant and equipment stock to ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained and report low stock to the Senior Supervisor promptly. Carry out regular plant and site checks in line with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and ensure that adequate records are kept ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and are updated on CAFM. Attend weekly operational meetings to have your workload reviewed and work allocated by a Senior Electrician, working collaboratively with other members of the Electrical team. Support the Senior Electrician with audits to ensure university Health & Safety aims are met and ISO 14001 Compliance. Where required, assist with the review of risk assessments for staff/management consideration and awareness. Engage with ‘toolbox talks’ to share updates relating to Electrical Maintenance, UoD Policies, H&S Guidelines etc. If needed, ensure the Senior Supervisor is updated following these sessions to enable them to update learning records across the team. As directed by the Senior Supervisor, liaise with DSRL in reference to maintenance activities and ensure any works are managed in line with the SLA in the absence of Senior Electrician or line manager. Engage with university colleagues re appropriate times to undertake certain works, using own judgement, knowledge and experience to ensure that any disruption to students and staff is kept to a minimum. Liaise with both internal and external customers appropriately and promptly, to ensure those connected to or involved in your work are aware of progress and action taken or action required to rectify the identified works. Attend Appointed Person (AP) training to access high‑risk permit to work areas. Exemplify the University’s Values and Behaviours.
