Overview We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join the Colas Rail team in Birmingham, England. The role is permanent and offers an exciting opportunity to work on multidisciplinary light rail projects within the Midland Metro Alliance. Location & Contract Location: Birmingham, England, United Kingdom Contract type: Permanent Publication date: 1 Dec 2025 Role Purpose To administer all commercial aspects across your allocated portfolio, from inception through to final account and close out, achieving maximum commercial results for multidisciplinary light rail projects. Person Specification Commercial or finance function experience in engineering or construction, as a Commercial Manager on large civils or infrastructure projects. Hands‑on experience working for contractors. Working knowledge of finance systems and various forms of contracts. Cost and budget administration. Financial and commercial reporting to board level. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Minimum 5 years Commercial Management experience as an SQS or QS with a proven track record in major projects. Preferred (But Not Essential) Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Key Responsibilities Lead, manage and train commercial teams across the portfolio of projects. Embed commercial focus and best practice across each project team. Assist on all contractual matters from inception to close out. Prepare contract documents, including bills of quantities, specifications and drawings. Manage the Risk & Opportunities process and deliver contractual solutions that balance risk and opportunity. Manage budgets and ensure cost controls. Provide procurement support and deliver projects safely, on time and to optimal quality. Deliver contractually agreed cash flow and submit AFPs in line with contractual timescales. Negotiate contractual disputes and final accounts within DFA levels. Undertake site measure queries and produce monthly CVR reports. Adapt to changing operational requirements as necessary.
