In collaboration with Dementia UK, an opportunity hasarisen for a Registered Nurse with proven management knowledge and clinicalexperience in dementia care to join our friendly Admiral Nurse Team withinNAViGO CIC.AdmiralNurses are specialist dementia nurses who work in the community to supportfamily carers of people with who have complex needs.AdmiralNurses also offer consultancy to other professionals involved in providing carefor people with dementia. The hours will be Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We arelooking for a nurse who is passionate about dementia and who has an interest inusing this to continue the development of the Admiral Nurse Team.Please note: The earliest start date for this position is 2nd March 2026Main duties of the jobYou may work with several members of the family wherethere is more than one carer. Skills in counselling and group work are anadvantage in this post. Some conference, teaching and presentation work is partof this role and the post-holder will either have or be prepared to developthese skills. The post-holder will join the national network of Admiral Nursesand will benefit from the practice development framework for Admiral Nursingprovided by Dementia UK. To develop and maintain a caseload of family carersand meet the multiple and often complex needs of these through ongoingassessment and review of health and wellbeing and the development,implementation and evaluation of care plans2. Advise on, recommend and provide a range of effectiveinterventions at any time point from pre diagnosis to beyond the death of theperson cared for, paying particular attention to loss, transitions and changingrelationships as times of potential stress.3. Promote the acquisition of new skills and competencies forcarers to enhance understanding and cope with challenges and difficulties theymay meet, for example changing relationships and behaviours that challenge, andto promote good communication between carers and all others involved in thecare of the person with dementia.4. Provide a range of psychological and social interventionsto promote health and wellbeing of family carers, and assist with thealleviation, prevention and management of stress, depression, and anxietyrelated to the caring role.5. Liaise with GPs and primary health care practitioners, andstatutory and voluntary agencies regarding the best possible care for theperson with dementia, and promote understanding of carer needs.6. To promote the health and wellbeing of carers and peoplewith dementia in line with health and social care policy, guidelines andlegislation7. To act as advocates for carers (with permission) tofacilitate access to services and influence care provision8. To identify development options for addressing inequalityand to contribute to strategies designed to improve access to services forpeople who are socially excluded.9. To ensure that care is delivered in accordance withAdmiral Nurse Service Standards and other relevant local and nationalstandards, such as those recommended in National Service Frameworks for OlderPeople and Mental Health and other equivalent policy across the UK.10. To organise own work under supervision of clinical leadadmiral nurse and work as part of larger multi-professional team11. To recognise the limits of own competency andprofessional boundaries and to make appropriate and timely referral in respectof carers needs12. To facilitate and participate as necessary andappropriate in case conferences, care programme approach meetings, networkmeetings and similar giving feedback and liaising with other professionalsinvolved in care of the person with dementia.13. To participate in and make effective use of clinicalsupervision opportunities as provided14. To ensure all nursing practice is carried out inaccordance with the agreed policies and procedures of NAViGO CIC and the NMCcode of conduct, and other relevant nursing policy, and that all equipment andtechnologies used are appropriate and effective15. To contribute to development of policies, procedures andprotocols relevant to Admiral nursing and the health and well being of theclient group16. To provide consultancy to others working in dementia careand to work collaboratively with health/social services and the voluntary andindependent sector (as appropriate)17. To integrate into practice current knowledge of dementiaand caring, informed by research and other forms of evidence18. To take part in appropriate practice based evaluation,audit and research; to disseminate findings19. To participate in negotiated circumstances inconferences, seminars and workshops at levels to be agreed with admiral nurseclinical lead, disseminating admiral nursing work, and promoting best practicein dementia care20. To promote the rights, interests, needs and choices ofservice users in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care and services.21. To facilitate consultation with users about servicedelivery; and to evaluate and provide feedback.22. Deliver evidence based dementia care and supportimprovements in the experience for families affected by dementia.23. Provide support/education to colleagues, other health andsocial care professionals/providers in dementia care.24. Support the delivery of key quality and performanceindicators relating to dementia care, including the experience of families.25. Apply the Admiral Nurse Competency framework at aspecialist level, including person centred care, therapeutic skills and triadicrelationships, sharing knowledge, best practice and critical reflectivepractice.26. Develop and/or support, in partnership with otherprofessionals, person centred care plans for people with dementia includingpositive risk management.27. Ensure that all legal requirements are consideredand adhered to where appropriate to patients and carers including; MentalCapacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) 2007 andSafeguarding Adults 2011.Person SpecificationKnowledgeFormal knowledge of dementia/ older people acquired through clinical post-graduate training/ education - or minimum of 18 months experience of working with dementia/older people.Experience of working with groups and individuals in different roles and settingsExperience of liaising with other teams or services, for example GPs, voluntary sector servicesPrevious experience as an Admiral Nurse or CPN for older peopleWorked as key-worker/care coordinator or equivalent.Experience of teaching or presenting skills.QualificationsCurrent Registration on part 3 or 13 of NMC registerWillingness to work towards Level 7 qualification including the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework moduleEvidence of post registration training specific to dementia.Qualification in counselling, or willingness to acquire thisENB 998 or other teaching certificateAdditional CriteriaHigh level of knowledge about different types of dementia, clinical prognosis and complications and current care approaches.Demonstrable knowledge of current medication options for people with dementia.Demonstrable knowledge of carers needs and complexities of caring.Demonstrable knowledge of person centred care approachesDemonstrable knowledge of current service provision affecting people with dementia across health and social care.Demonstrable knowledge of National Dementia Strategy, Carer Strategy and End of Life StrategyKnowledge of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised care plans.Evidence of knowledge of current professional issues.Relevant professional Mental Health legislation/guidance.
