Job Summary Castle Mead Medical Centre (CMMC) are excited to offer a full‑time opportunity for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our experienced and supportive clinical team. We are looking for an independent prescriber, preferably trained to master’s level, who can work autonomously and manage a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Duties & Responsibilities Manage on‑day appointments alongside the Duty Doctor. Autonomously assess, examine, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment for patients. Manage acute and chronic conditions, including undifferentiated presentations, referring to appropriate clinicians when needed. Request, interpret and act upon diagnostic investigations such as blood tests, microbiology results or imaging, with appropriate senior clinician support where needed. Prescribe safely and effectively in line with local formularies. Support patients in adopting health promotion strategies, lifestyle changes and self‑management. Communicate clearly and compassionately, ensuring patients understand options and are able to provide informed consent. Accurately maintain electronic and written records in accordance with practice policies and professional standards. Respond confidently in emergency situations (e.g., cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, safeguarding concerns) in line with clinical protocols. Take independent responsibility for personal clinical practice and workload with support as required. Qualifications & Experience Registered Nurse with NMC registration. Independent prescriber and, preferably, holding or working towards a Master’s qualification. Experience working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within General Practice is advantageous. Familiarity with SystmOne or Clarity Teamnet beneficial; full training provided. Excellent communication, decision‑making and teamwork skills. Proficient in managing minor illnesses and complex long‑term conditions. Professional Standards Work within the NMC Code of Practice. Collaborate with nursing, medical and administrative teams; attend relevant meetings. Participate in clinical audits, service evaluations and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to development of clinical policies, pathways and practice improvements. Report complaints, incidents and near‑misses to support risk reduction and learning. Engage in continuous professional development, clinical supervision and reflective practice. Provide clinical support to colleague development, including engagement with medical students. Education & Development Participate in training, research, clinical supervision and audits to enhance outcomes. Empower patients and families in self‑management and understanding of health conditions. Maintain professional development in line with NMC requirements and national guidance. Audit & Quality Improvement Support and participate in clinical audits and service evaluations. Apply evidence‑based practice to evaluate and improve outcomes. Assist in developing quality assurance processes and protocols. Promote critical appraisal and evidence‑informed practice within the team. Resource Management Organise workload to meet patient needs. Contribute ideas and feedback to enhance service quality and operational efficiency. Use equipment and resources safely and responsibly, supporting staff development for competent use. Freedom to Act Work autonomously across clinical boundaries managing a caseload of undifferentiated minor illness or injury. Prioritise, organise and deliver work within the framework of practice policies and clinical guidelines. Maintain networks of support for self and multidisciplinary team. Stay proficient in emergency resuscitation techniques. Health, Safety & Infection Control Take reasonable care of personal and others' safety at work. Adhere to infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene protocols. Follow relevant legislation and guidance (e.g., Health Act 2006, Health & Social Care Act 2008). Risk Management Develop and promote effective risk management systems. Minimise risk to self, others and the practice. Identify and report hazards and undertake immediate mitigating actions where possible. Records Management, Confidentiality & Information Governance Create and manage patient information according to practice policies and legal requirements. Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff data, following Data Protection legislation and Caldicott principles. Ensure information is accurate, used appropriately, retained only when necessary, and kept secure. Patient & Public Involvement Support patient involvement in care planning, service development and improvement. Assist initiatives such as the Patient Participation Group. Work independently and undertake additional duties within scope of the role as required. Person Specification Essential Qualifications Registered Nurse with NMC registration. Qualified independent prescriber. Desirable Qualifications Holding or working towards a Master’s qualification. Essential Experience Experienced autonomous practitioner in primary care with strong communication and decision‑making skills. Willingness to be part of a supportive team. Expertise in minor illness and ability to manage complex long‑term conditions. Desirable Experience Experience as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within General Practice. Familiarity with SystmOne and Clarity Teamnet.
