Bookshop Manager, North Berwick Employer: St. Columba’s Hospice Location: North Berwick, Scotland Salary: £26,797 WTE (Step 1, rising to Step 2 £27,900 after 12‑month performance review) plus a 10% uplift for Saturdays Employment type: Permanent Shift Pattern: 22.5 hours per week over 5 days including Saturdays (exact hours to be agreed) About the role: We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to run our new bookshop in North Berwick. In this varied role you will be instrumental in creating an exciting space that is a hub of the local community, acting as the face of St. Columba’s Hospice and raising public awareness of our fundraising efforts and what we do. Key responsibilities: Day‑to‑day running of the bookshop, reporting to the Retail Manager. Deliver outstanding customer service and manage a dedicated team of volunteers. Apply retail awareness, merchandising skills and creativity to effectively display and sell donated goods. Use sales skills to drive revenue and maximise donation utilisation. Assist with Gift Aid processes and ensure compliance (knowledge is an advantage). Required qualifications and experience: Experience managing a diverse team of people in retail or volunteer settings. Solid understanding of retail operations, especially those involving donated goods. Proactive attitude, strong relational skills and a genuine love and knowledge of books. Experience with sales, merchandising and retail bookkeeping is desirable. Knowledge of the charity shop Gift Aid process is advantageous but not essential. Why St. Columba’s Hospice?
