Job Summary Deputy Ward Manager – Safer Staffing at Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Posts across the Atherleigh Park site. Available Posts Sovereign Unit – 1 post Priestner’s Unit – 2 posts Westleigh Unit – 1 post Responsibilities Support the Ward Manager in operational management and leadership of the ward. Uphold the values of the ward promoting openness, transparency and learning. Supervise junior staff and mentor new staff, newly qualified nurses and junior staff. Oversee areas of clinical expertise such as medication management and physical health provision. Support the Ward Manager with HR tasks such as return to work and sickness monitoring. Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation. Manage shifts as nurse in charge. Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop risk management plans to support incident response. Qualifications & Experience Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) professional qualification. Preparation for Mentorship or willingness to pursue it. Experience at Band 5 (or equivalent) with evidence of ongoing development and CPD. Post‑qualification experience working with people with severe and enduring mental illness. Applied understanding of complex presentations in mental health in‑patient care. Knowledge of clinical risk assessment, NMC Standards, Code of Conduct, change management processes. Sound clinical leadership skills in a large multidisciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to implement the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy, manage conflict, maintain morale and adapt to change. Commitment to equal opportunities and a flexible approach to staff support. Desirable Post‑registration clinical qualification in Mental Health (e.g. Acute Care). Professional development in Clinical Leadership. Clinical Supervision training (CFT Interventions).
