Location: Plymouth, England, United Kingdom CNC Specialist - Physical Products Helsing is a defence AI company dedicated to protecting democratic societies through technological leadership and ethical stewardship. Job Responsibilities As a CNC Specialist you will operate and set up CNC lathes and milling machines to produce precision components for the R&D maritime team. Working closely with mechatronics and test field engineers, you will enable rapid prototype production and validation, directly supporting our mission to provide advanced defence capabilities. The day-to-day Create machining programs with CAM software from CAD files or drawings Maintain and document the machine park and manage tool renewal Ensure the supply of raw materials Participate in prototype assembly Attend R&D team meetings Develop and enforce safety rules Supervise other machinists Qualifications Proven experience as a CNC Turner and CNC Miller, focusing on small series and prototypes in an R&D environment with tight turnaround times Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics Proficiency with CNC programming (e.g., G‑code, Mazatrol, Fanuc) and CAM software for prototype development Experience with precision measuring instruments Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling, with adaptability to new materials and experimental techniques Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and iterate quickly Capability to work independently or as part of a team, collaborating effectively with R&D engineers and designers Basic mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry, are beneficial High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship is preferred Familiarity with CAD software for viewing and possibly modifying designs is a plus Experience with machine maintenance and tool management to ensure minimal downtime during critical R&D phases Nice to Have Experience with marine‑grade materials (specific stainless steels, marine‑grade aluminium alloys, bronze, titanium) and their machinability Understanding of marine environmental challenges such as corrosion resistance and saltwater exposure Experience with multi‑axis CNC machining (4‑ or 5‑axis) Experience with rapid prototyping for marine applications Experience with water‑jet cutter machines Benefits Focus on outcomes, not time‑tracking Competitive compensation and stock options Relocation support Social and education allowances Regular company events and all‑hands meetings across Europe Hands‑on onboarding program (“Infraduction”), building tooling and applications used company‑wide Equal Opportunity Helsing is an equal opportunities employer.
