Vicar of the Benefice of Easingwold with Raskelf, York

York, York City, United Kingdom The Diocese Of York Full time
Vicar of the Benefice of Easingwold with Raskelf, York

Our parish life is rooted in prayer, and our congregation is eager to learn more from Christ's teaching, providing opportunities to share our faith in ways that are relevant to all backgrounds, ages, and genders. Traditional Eucharistic services and music are important to us, but we are open to alternative ideas if this will help to grow our congregations and encourage younger members and families.

Easingwold is a growing market town in North Yorkshire, and Raskelf, a farming village that has also increased rapidly over the last few years. Situated 12 miles north of the historic city of York and on the edge of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town has good road links via the A19 and A1(M).

We want to:

  • maintain our local tradition while introducing new initiatives that appeal to younger members
  • develop our mission to build on what already exists in our churches
  • look outwards into our town and village and ask what folks want from us
  • establish activities for young families and teenagers and develop social outreach
  • look beyond our existing congregation without alienating them
  • continue to care for the elderly
  • increase the number of volunteers within our congregation

We are looking for a Vicar:

  • to help us reach our goals
  • to teach us more about Christ
  • to help us learn what he is calling each of us to do within our church and the wider community
  • to help us keep up to date with new ideas and approaches for younger generations
  • to widen our congregation and appeal throughout Easingwold and Raskelf
  • to reach out to our growing community and engage in other possible outlets which may be more relevant in today's society
  • to create fun and engaging services inside and outside our church buildings
  • to continue with fundraising for the restoration of the church building (Raskelf)
  • to find different ways of attracting more people to be involved in the church, and not just through services, by reaching out to the community with an understanding of rural life. Raskelf is a farming village
  • to make our church more part of the community, considering changes to the church interior and facilities to enable it to be a more useful building (Easingwold)
  • to be approachable, empathetic, kind, enthusiastic, tolerant, a spiritual mentor, thought-provoking, and inspirational
  • to have a bit of drive and lots of energy

The Diocese of York

The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities. This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull, and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast, as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.

Our mission and ministry rely on thousands of people – lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding. Together, we are striving to be a people who are 'Living Christ's Story'. We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church which in its diversity reflects the communities it serves. We are bringing renewed focus and fresh energy to achieving our aims:

  • Becoming more like Christ
  • Reaching those we currently don't
  • Growing in discipleship, influence, and numbers
  • Transforming our finances and structures

Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.

Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.

If you would like an informal chat regarding this post, please contact Bishop Flora Winfield, Bishop of Selby, via her PA Linda Bunn at bishopofselbypa@yorkdiocese.org.

Closing date for applications: Midnight on Sunday 25th May 2025

'Growing a visible presence of God's love and welcome at the heart of our Benefice.' is our aim across the parishes of Malton and Old Malton. Our Churches come from quite different liturgical traditions and, together with our Fresh Expression of Church, in the form of 'OMG Malton', we offer a wide choice of services to suit everyone.

Is God calling you to serve our friendly, outward-looking village communities situated on the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park?
