Specialist Occupational Therapist (development post considered) CIC Band 5-6 (development post considered) full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, weekend rota with days off in lieu. Located at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (CA2 7HY). Job Summary We are recruiting a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within the acute team at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. The post will manage a defined caseload of patients, working in hospital and community settings, providing specialist assessment, treatment and safe discharge planning. Main Duties Use evidence‑based, client‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Provide leadership and supervision to occupational therapists and support staff, and supervise students during placements. Support the Clinical Team Leads and deputise in certain aspects of the role as required. Coordinate the daily workload of own and junior team members to optimise rehabilitation. Qualifications Essential Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent. Registered as an occupational therapist with the Health Care Professions Council. Relevant development to postgraduate certificate or equivalent. Practice Placement Facilitator qualification. Desirable Relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent. Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent. Accredited wheelchair prescriber. Experience Essential Rotation within key acute areas as a band 5 occupational therapist (e.g., elderly, medical, orthopaedics, surgery, neuro, stroke). Working with specialised occupational therapy equipment. Assessing for and designing adaptation procedures. Audit and practice improvement. Desirable Evidence of publications. Staff supervision experience. Research involvement. Care pathway development. Knowledge Essential CPD portfolio management. Current NHS policies and their impact on OT services. Specialist practice knowledge and guidance. Evidence‑based practice and standardised assessment. Quality improvement, risk management, professional ethics. Multidisciplinary team working. Desirable Leadership development or management training. Specialist training. Clinical supervision experience. Appraisal experience.
