Job Title Staff Nurse – Caton (Band 5) – The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and Charity Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen on Caton ward to recruit a Band 5 registered nurse to work within our fast-paced surgical ward specialising in spinal surgical care. We are looking for individuals who are passionate, enthusiastic, and have a passion for acute surgical care. We are open 365 days a year and work shift patterns of days, nights providing a service to our amazing patients and their relatives. Main duties Participate in team nursing and, when appropriate, organise patients’ care. Escalate on the condition of patients, medical instructions and implement as necessary. Ensure and safeguard patient’s property and valuables. Participate in the training of other nursing staff, including basic and post‑basic learners in consultation with Sister/Charge Nurse wherever applicable. Undertake aspects of coordinator’s role. Adhere to all Trust policies, procedures and standards of care. Maintain high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager. Assist staff to understand their role in the unit team. Be aware of, and adhere to, the economic use of ward equipment and stores. Ensure adequate security, administration, proper use and recording of dangerous drugs in accordance with hospital policy. Ensure up‑to‑date knowledge of new equipment being used. Further own professional development by attending study days and seminars as arranged through in‑service training officers. Ensure confidentiality at all times. Job Details Paid: £31,049 to £37,796 a year (per annum) Contract: Fixed term, 9 months Working pattern: Full‑time, days & nights Location: Lower Lane, Liverpool, L9 7LJ Reference number: 160‑7576979 Band: 5 Person Specification Essential Qualifications Registered General Nurse Experience in ward areas Desirable Qualifications Post‑registration study in a neuro‑specific area Acute care experience Post‑qualification experience Essential Knowledge & Experience Understanding of quality and changing practice in a clinical setting Acute care experience Post‑qualification experience Essential Skills & Attributes Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, MDT team and people of varying levels of understanding. Ability to answer questions and present factual information. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to manage own workload and that of a team with supervision. Demonstrate basic IT skills and understanding. Essential Other Ability to undertake the shift patterns required to meet the needs of the service.
