Diabetic Eye Screener/Grader

OverviewWe are recruiting a Diabetic Eye Screener/grader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The post holder will carry out accurate visual acuity testing of patients, correctly administer anaesthetic and dilation eye drops prior to retinal photography according to departmental protocol, be aware of the possible undesirable effects of dilating drops, provide patient education regarding these, take high quality and correctly aligned photographs guiding eye position using external fixation where possible, accurately grade images according to screening programme requirements, send results to patients and their GPs as directed by the clinical lead, and deal with patients sympathetically and tactfully whilst maintaining confidentiality.ResponsibilitiesAccurate visual acuity testing of patients.Correctly administer anaesthetic and dilation eye drops prior to retinal photography.Be aware of the possible undesirable effects of dilating drops and provide patient education regarding these.Take high quality and correctly aligned photographs guiding eye position using external fixation where possible.Accurately grade images according to screening programme requirements.Send results to patients and their GPs as directed by the clinical lead.Deal with patients sympathetically and tactfully whilst maintaining confidentiality.QualificationsPrevious photographic and/or diagnostic imaging experience is desirable.Benefits and Working HoursYou will be required to work evening and weekend hours in this role. In addition, you will receive a High‑Cost Area Supplement of 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,258 and a maximum payment of £2,121 per annum pro rata.
