PURPOSE OF THE ROLE You’ll shape how the world’s most important and captivating stories are told through our social platforms - Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Twitter - and carve routes to in-depth audio listening. This is an ever-evolving role at the heart of our digital team, liaising with audio makers around the BBC as well as independent production companies, identifying story lines with digital potential and crafting them into compelling social and online content for global audiences. WHY JOIN THE TEAM We are a creative, editorial content team. You’ll be producing content seen and trusted by millions of people globally, working with a range of content from breaking news, through to documentaries, fiction and comedy. At the heart of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape our agenda, collaborate with some of the best journalists, producers and artists in the business, and help evolve our visual storytelling. Ensuring our social and digital feeds are up-to-date and optimised for our global audiences. Developing impactful digital storytelling formats across social platforms, sharing best practice along the way. Navigating complex legal, editorial policy and rights issues as they particularly relate to digital storytelling and publishing. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Strong social and online writing skills, with the ability to adapt your style to a wide range of complex news and feature stories — from breaking political developments and scientific discoveries to remarkable personal experiences and even comedy — reflecting the breadth of our programmes. Experience of scheduling and optimising digital content on high-profile social media platforms An aptitude to spot stories and angles within news and features audio content and develop them into compelling social and online content. Ability and confidence to coordinate, guide and share best practice with audio teams in digital culture and ways of working that enable them to tell their stories for social and online audiences. An analytical mind with knowledge of quantitative social listening and performance tools, and a journalistic awareness of how to apply insight into our storytelling. DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED Skills and creativity working with BBC World Service graphic tools (e.g. Canva, Photoshop) to amplify visual impact. Knowledge of BBC World Service’s schedule, programming and the way our audio stories are told. Experience producing and editing compelling vertical video using Final Cut Pro. Some training and digital culture sharing experience. If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
