Senior Mechanical Engineer
Contract Type: Permanent
Work Pattern: Full Time
Market: Energy
Job Ref: 6608
We're a global engineering, management, and development consultancy.
Our purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do, relentlessly focusing on excellence and digital innovation, transforming our clients' businesses, our communities and employee opportunities.
A fundamental part of this is respecting each person's differences and striving to meet their needs.
About the business unit:
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we're helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About the role:
Due to new project wins and continued growth, we're looking for Senior Mechanical Engineers to join our Power, Process & Nuclear division. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team, working on innovative projects across the defence and nuclear new-build industries. As part of our growing team, you will contribute to creating innovative solutions tailored to client needs, producing high-quality technical documentation, and contributing to the successful delivery of nuclear and energy related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and P&IDs.
- Produce documentation such as condition reports, survey reports, basis of designs, and procurement specifications tailored to each project stage.
- Perform and review mechanical design calculations, including stress and fluid flow analysis.
- Conduct detailed surveys of mechanical equipment and installations to assess their condition, operational status, and future needs.
- Produce and review equipment specifications and plant schedules.
- Contribute to bids and estimates, supporting the preparation of proposals.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including construction (design and management) standards.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
Candidate Specification:
- Chartered status with the IMechE or other relevant professional body (or equivalent experience with progress toward chartered status).
- Experience in defence, nuclear, or other regulated industries (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Adaptable and capable of delivering high-quality results within set deadlines.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the Mechanical Engineering field, delivering impactful projects for some of the industry's most prominent clients.
Due to the sensitivity of some of our projects, candidates will be required to apply for and obtain UK Security Clearance.
UK Immigration
Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024. We continue to welcome applications from candidates who are eligible for alternative immigration routes in the UK, that do not require sponsorship as a Skilled Worker now or in future.
