We have vacancies for different shifts: 4 weekly fixed roster, 06:00‑14:00, including weekends and bank holidays (37.5 hours per week), working 5 over 7 days. The Domestic Services Team based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking for Domestic Assistants to be part of the relief pool working in all wards and departments across the Trust site, including COVID‑19 areas and other infection areas. We seek reliable, enthusiastic and flexible individuals who have experience in cleaning and who wish to develop while working with a team embracing the revised National Cleaning Standards. You will assist in maintaining a clean, hygienic and safe environment for patients and clinical staff, while supporting Nurses and other stakeholders such as Bed Managers with discharge/infection cleans in line with local RAG poster and National Standards of Cleanliness. The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, and receive referrals from all over the UK. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Isolation room enhanced cleaning (Appendix A). General cleaning – high‑ and low‑level dusting, wet and dry mopping, maintenance of floor surfaces, and cleaning of toilets and sanitary areas. Clean and store equipment after use; maintain equipment condition and report any faults. Removal of clinical and general waste, including bodily fluids in public areas. Replace disposables (hand towels, toilet rolls, soaps, gels) and perform curtain changing. Provide an efficient, high‑quality domestic service to patients, visitors and staff. Adhere to cleaning policies, procedures and frequencies; follow the National Cleaning Standards and the Trust’s SOPs. Operate mechanical cleaning equipment safely (scrubbing, buffing, vacuuming, carpet shampooing) and report hazards to the domestic supervisor. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and a clean uniform at all times. Respond to rectifications following audits within the required timescale; report incidents and signs of infestation. Show good communication skills, a helpful and sensitive manner, and liaise with ward and department staff to prioritise work. Work largely unsupervised, planning and prioritising own workload while respecting the Trust’s COSHH regulations and other safety procedures. Be prepared for moderate physical effort (lifting, pushing equipment; carrying mop buckets, making rooms); tolerate long periods of standing, bending, stooping and exposure to cleaning products. Understand and follow basic IT procedures for the Trust’s online training and monitoring systems. Assist new starters, maintaining support and confidence as they learn. Maintain stock control (soaps, gels, paper towels, mops, cloths). Support the domestic services department in monitoring and reporting performance. Adhere to Trust HR policies and procedures, completing required training such as CET, manual handling, working at heights and relevant national standards. Act calmly and quickly in emergencies and when dealing with distressing or emotional circumstances. This job description is not exhaustive; it may be necessary to alter or add work to ensure the efficient running of the department.
