JRN25 PURPOSE OF THE ROLE We’re recruiting a Journalist to work on BBC Newsnight. We’re about added-value conversation consequential interviews and gripping debate and discussion. It’s about fresh insights and forensic interviews. We’re looking for sharp journalists with creative ideas and strong analytical skills. We want a great team player with ambition and ideas. We’re looking for a creative journalist who shows bags of initiative and passionately cares about making the best output. You will have lots of ideas and enjoy working to tight deadlines. From the infamous interview with Prince Andrew to conversations with global figures including Elon Musk, Hillary Clinton, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Madonna, Dolly Parton, Bill Gates, Greta Thunberg, Prime Minister Mark Carney, Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Dalai Lama and David Attenborough our team delivers journalism that matters. As a Journalist you will play a pivotal role in shaping these moments. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT Journalists on this programme will be responsible for delivering great ideas for stories, guests and creative treatments that give Newsnight a strong identity. You will need to be a strong fixer who can work to tight deadlines. You will need to have a good understanding of the news agenda and a track record in spotting trends and stories behind the headline. You will also work collaboratively with other parts of the BBC to give our original stories the best possible exposure on the appropriate platforms and create impact. Contributing to a dynamic supportive and creative work culture. Maintain personal effectiveness by managing emotions in the face of pressure and setbacks. Demonstrate an approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy. Fix and provide briefs for high‑impact interviews with fast turnarounds and tight deadlines. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA The successful candidate will have experience working in daily news in journalism. You should be able to demonstrate your ability to perform to a high standard in a breaking news environment working with fast turnarounds and tight deadlines. You must be an experienced fixer and be able to demonstrate a creative streak with the ability to make output that has impact. Strong editorial judgement with a good understanding of the news agenda. Demonstrable ability to bring creative ideas to the table. Strong writing skills. DESIRABLE You will welcome constructive feedback and use it to develop your skills. Experience of working with high profile talent is helpful.
