In our quest to deliver patient‑focused quality care we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our forward‑thinking Health & Justice team at HMP/YOI Feltham A and B. Responsibilities Participate in the efficient day‑to‑day running of the dispensary. Provide medicine management and assist in maintaining correct Controlled Drug records in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local/national guidance and deliver high‑quality services to the prison. Under the supervision of a senior technician, provide a timely and efficient stock topping‑up service to the wings and ensure stock levels are maintained according to an agreed stock list. Ensure medicines are supplied and replenished to the emergency cupboards, providing medicine‑related advice to other healthcare professionals where necessary. Check emergency bags and maintain records for audit. Work towards completing the accredited checking technician’s course and undertake periodic re‑assessment (every 2 years) as appropriate. Work with a team of technicians to provide an accurate and efficient dispensing service and maintain a clean and tidy working environment. Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing dispensary Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain computer files for prisoner information and dispensary computer operations via update discs. Ensure pharmaceuticals are transported around the prison maintaining integrity and security, and adhere to safety precautions. Manage risk and health and safety in accordance with prison service and CNWL policies and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Process dispensed medicines in accordance with agreed standards and enter patient details into the computerized record system. Provide regular medicines management service to each wing, checking prescriptions, removing outdated items and managing stock. Assist in collection and analysis of workload data, identify areas for service development and help with research and audit initiatives. Participate in development and delivery of training events for CNWL‑employed staff in the prison healthcare setting. Deal appropriately with requests from GPs, courts, police and substance‑misuse clinics, balancing patient confidentiality with clinical needs. Advise selected patients regarding their medication and other pharmaceutical issues, adjusting advice to overcome barriers to understanding. Support the Pharmacy Manager in providing services within budgetary constraints, identifying potential savings. Be familiar with Prison Standards, Standing Orders, Circular Instructions, Notices to Staff, Prison Rules, and health and safety regulations, and ensure the Healthcare Centre meets security requirements. Qualifications & Experience BTEC or NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent. Registered with the GPhS. Knowledge of legislation and good practice in relation to medicines. Knowledge of the government publication ‘A pharmacy service to prisoners’. Experience of stock control. Computer literate. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team. Experience with Pharmacy Manager/Systmone and/or JAC computer software (desirable). Understanding of the principles of clinical governance (desirable). Pharmacy hospital experience (desirable). Attributes Demonstrate initiative. Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with clinicians, healthcare professionals and patients. Fluent written and spoken English. Ability to manage own workload and meet objectives and targets. Teamwork, motivation of self and others.
