We are seeking a dedicated and empatheticSpecialist Study Skills Support Tutorto join our inclusiveASSIST Service (Additional Student Support & Inclusion Services Team). In this post, you will provide specialist study skills support on both a one-to-one and small group basis to students who have dyslexia/Specific Learning Difference’s, ADHD, autism, and mental health conditions, as well as other additional needs, to enable them to achieve their potential. You will help students develop effective learning strategies and independent study skills, enabling them to overcome barriers to learning and thrive in higher education and beyond. We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy. Remote days per week are flexible to meet student and service needs, but at least 1 per week. This post is subject to a background disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service before any appointment can be confirmed. About You Key Responsibilities: Deliver confidential one-to-one and small group sessions, tailoring support to individual student needs based on diagnostic assessments and Study Needs Assessments, in areas such as: Essay writing and exam techniques. Research and reading strategies. Time management and organisation. Revision and exam preparation. Proofreading strategies. ICT and assistive technology use. Critical and reflective thinking. What We’re Looking For: Applicants with Qualified Teacher Status. Experience supporting students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other Specific Learning Differences, in an educational setting. Secure understanding of inclusive teaching practices and assistive technologies. Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and student empowerment. Qualifications Essential; Honours degree (Level 6 or above) Teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, PGCE, or equivalent) OR demonstrable teaching experience Qualification in supporting students with SpLD Full or Associate relevant Professional Body membership Desirable; Postgraduate qualification Teaching Practice Certificate(e.g. from PATOSS or BDA) Qualification and/or certified training in Assistive Technologies Comprehensive training in adult autism, ADHD and/or neurodivergence Library Learning and Student Services Why Join Us?
