Position Details Higher Level (Band 5) – Permanent – Band 5 | 1.0 wte | 37 hours per week Location: NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service, Ellen’s Glen Hospital Salary: £33,247 – £41,424 (pro‑rate), including weekend and public holiday commitment. About the Role We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy technician to join the pharmacy technical team at Ellen’s Glen Hospital. The post holder will work both with the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams in patient‑facing roles across the inpatient setting, supporting the completion of medication histories, medicines management, checking discharge prescriptions and providing specialist patient counselling. Responsibilities Taking comprehensive medication histories upon patient admission. Supporting medicines management throughout the inpatient stay. Final accuracy checks and release of inpatient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions. Providing specialist counselling to patients to promote understanding and adherence to their medication regimens. Working independently at times and liaising with wider pharmacy team to ensure patient care. Why Join Us? About You Essential Qualifications and Experience: Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent. Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services. HN Unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award (provided by Buttercups or NPA, 2019 or before). HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent experience. If you do not possess this qualification, you may still be considered if you can demonstrate equivalent professional experience; a Mapping Assessment Form must be completed and submitted as part of the application process.
