Graduate Quantity Surveyor BCS Group, operating under Barhale, is one of the largest privately‑owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialists in the UK. With over 40 years of experience, the company delivers design, civil engineering and maintenance services across multiple sectors including water, transport, energy and the built environment. Key Responsibilities Produce and send enquiries to subcontractors, inviting them to tender and engage with the supply chain. Receive and analyse quotations, liaising with Contracts Managers and Site Agents regarding price, history, availability, etc. Notify subcontractors in writing about the outcome of their bids promptly. Produce and process formal subcontract documents; certify interim and final payments and final subcontract accounts. Create bill of quantity/activity schedules for payment purposes. Create cash flow forecasts for internal and client purposes. Monitor and control income and expenditure on contracts, including interim/final payment applications and final accounts. Prepare monthly reports for the Commercial Manager (cost and value comparisons, turnover forecasts, etc.). Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with client engineers and subcontractors. Provide advice and support to the site team to optimise the use of contract resources. Support the Managing Surveyor with data input. Provide feedback to Estimators and Contracts Managers regarding contract pricing, projected profit/loss, and pricing omissions. Essential Qualifications Proficiency in IT packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke systems. Exceptional relationship‑building skills. Self‑motivated and proactive. Commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Negotiation skills and the ability to apply them externally and with the supply chain. Positive attitude and ability to integrate into and play an active part in the construction team. Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines. Willingness to pursue personal development and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge. Desirable Qualifications Degree‑qualified or equivalent. Experience or knowledge of the civil engineering industry; reasonable understanding of the water industry. Benefits Competitive salary.
