OverviewHydrologist - Senior/Principal (WINEP and Water Resources) role at WSP. This position is part of the Sustainable Water Management team and involves leading and contributing to Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) projects across the UK.What you’ll doLead and contribute to hydrology, water resources, and related deliverables for WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.Develop rainfall-runoff models (e.g., GR6J) and apply model calibration techniques; contribute to broader hydrology approaches for water resources applications in England and Wales (e.g., flow naturalisation, reservoir mass balance models).Familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches (e.g., Aquator, PyWR, MISER).Understand UK water resources management regulations and guidance (Water Resources Planning Guidelines, WINEP guidance such as Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination).Assess climate change resilience with knowledge of UKCP18 and related data products.Supervise small hydrology teams, mentor junior colleagues, with opportunities for formal People Management.Produce high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables with attention to detail and quality assurance.Programming experience (e.g., Python and/or R) and interest in developing these skills.Communicate effectively, writing high-quality concise reports, and collaborate with other sectors/disciplines to deliver hydrological aspects of diverse projects.What we’re looking forA track record contributing to the hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.Experience with rainfall-runoff modelling and calibration techniques; solid understanding of wider hydrology for water resources applications in England and Wales.Familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches (e.g., Aquator, PyWR, MISER).Strong understanding of UK water resources management regulations and WINEP guidance.Understanding of climate change resilience assessment using UKCP18 data products.Experience supervising teams and mentoring colleagues; ability to develop junior staff.Excellent communication skills and ability to write high-quality reports.Collaborative working style across sectors/disciplines.QualificationsA water-focused MSc (e.g., hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management) and BSc in related subject (e.g., physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering).Gained or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.What we offerWork-life balance and hybrid working policy with flexibility to work from home two days a week and access to modern offices in the UK.Inclusive and belonging culture, employee resource groups, and opportunities for career progression.Health and wellbeing benefits, Thrive programme, Virtual GP, workplace adjustments, and gym membership support (Gymflex).Flexible working arrangements, part-time options, additional leave purchases, and flexible holiday usage.Development opportunities including training, mentoring, and Chartership support.#WeAreWSPWe welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy or maternity/paternity.
