School, College and Looked After Children's Practitioner Become part of the CNWL Addictions Directorate’s new Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Service for Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. The role supports children and young people (CYP) who experience difficulties related to substance use, delivering prevention and support in schools, colleges and look‑after settings. Key Responsibilities Deliver educational awareness in CYP settings (schools, colleges, community venues) through workshops, assemblies and other activities. Provide bespoke training for teachers, foster carers, parents and social care professionals. Act as the primary worker for a defined caseload of children and young people, coordinating care with key partners across the boroughs. Undertake assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment interventions, producing high‑quality reports for schools, services, CAMHS and other agencies. Plan, organise and deliver individual and group work interventions in suitable locations for young people. Support CYP and their families through signposting to appropriate services, co‑design workshops and develop culturally sensitive offers to improve accessibility. Engage in outreach, working closely with communities to identify health and wellbeing needs and support the development of response services. Maintain case records, complete outcome monitoring and limit risk assessment tools, ensuring compliance with professional standards. Collaborate with health providers, schools, CAMHS, probation, courts, police and other organisations. Training and Qualifications – Essential Strong understanding of recovery practitioner roles within children and young people’s services. Evidence of further training in personal recovery principles. Commitment to obtain underpinning knowledge through work‑based learning and mandatory training. Motivational Interviewing training (desirable). Any specific training related to young people. Completed recovery practitioner training. Experience – Essential Experience working with alcohol/substance users or a comparable field. Understanding of the complex issues presented by young people. Experience working as part of a team and with individuals of all ages in a therapeutic/supportive role. Experience collaborating with health providers, schools, CAMHS, probation, courts, police and youth services. Experience delivering groups and one‑to‑one interventions. Experience in evaluations, audit and research (desirable). Knowledge & Skills – Essential Demonstrated knowledge of recovery principles and values. Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish bounded relationships with service users and carers. Capability of assessing and managing caseloads, developing and evaluating care plans. Familiarity with harm‑reduction precepts and risk management. Proficiency in outcome monitoring tools, clinical systems (SystmOne, Cerna, etc.) and Microsoft Office packages. Effective listening, teamwork, ability to challenge stigma and discriminatory practice. Clear reporting skills for stakeholders, including court and probation reports. Personal Attributes Ready to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Ability to travel between locations using own or public transport.
