Overview We have an exciting opportunity to join a multi‑centre study to track disease progression in motor neurone disease (MND). The study will use high density surface EMG and will focus on the monitoring of patients being treated by toferson, an antisense oligonucleotide treatment for patients with a mutation in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene. The post will involve delivery of the study in Sheffield, performing high density surface EMG and analysing data using advanced approaches. The project is led by Dr James Bashford (Kings College London); the local lead in Sheffield is Dr James Alix. Main Duties And Responsibilities Day-to-day running of the clinical research in Sheffield, adhering to the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Perform advanced surface EMG recordings on patients with motor neurone disease and collect additional data as required by the study protocol. Work independently and as part of a team to deliver the research objectives in line with the project outline. Coordinate activities with the local PI and clinical research team and the lead centre (Kings College London). Assist in the writing of the project reports and publications. Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post. Essential and Desirable Criteria A PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline, or equivalent experience. Essential: Experience in human neurophysiology. Desirable: Experience in clinical research and Good Clinical Practice. Essential: Ability to convey complex information to non‑experts. Essential: Experience in scientific writing and presentations. Desirable: Ability to organise and plan complex activities effectively. Essential: Generic IT skills e.g. statistical software, Microsoft office suite. Desirable: Experience in statistical methods. Essential: Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet deadlines.
