Job Overview Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry at the Ablett Unit, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The role covers the adult acute care service with 20 beds across two wards (10 female and 10 male) and the Home Treatment Team (HTT) that can admit up to 25 patients. The unit also hosts an 8‑bed male locked rehabilitation ward (Cynnydd) and a 10‑bed Older Persons’ functional ward (Tegid). The post combines a supervisory and clinical role, ensuring medically‑led, patient‑centered, recovery‑based care in line with the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010 and local policies. Responsibilities Act as the treating Consultant for all inpatients on the female and male wards and for HTT patients. Carry out medical oversight and handover of responsibility at admission and discharge. Provide responsible clinician oversight for half the adult acute care service (10 beds) and half the HTT patients, in partnership with the other Substantive Approved Clinician. Lead and supervise junior doctors, allied health staff and volunteers through structured clinical supervision. Coordinate with Community Multi‑Disciplinary Teams (CMHTs), local authorities and sector consultants to ensure continuity of care and robust discharge planning. Manage bed capacity and patient flow, working with the active bed‑management process to optimise resource utilisation. Conduct mental health act audits and uphold medical leadership within the multidisciplinary team. Fulfil supervisory responsibilities under the Mental Health Measure and local policy frameworks. Support for progressing careers and achieving personal goals. Qualifications & Experience Essential: MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC and licence to practise. Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT. Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry. In good standing with the GMC concerning warnings and practice conditions. Desirable: Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management. MRCPsych or an equivalent Royal College of Psychiatrists approved qualification. Welsh AC Approval. Experience leading a multi‑disciplinary team. Experience of community psychiatric practice. Eligibility Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completion of CCT. Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Clinical Skills Evidence of training in core and specialist community psychiatry competencies. Experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
