Role As Head of Mechanical Engineering, you will: Lead and inspire a team of mechanical engineers to design and develop robust products for harsh environments, ensuring compliance with IP6x ingress protection standards. Drive innovation in mechanical design for mission-critical communication devices, balancing durability, ergonomics, and manufacturability. Oversee the full lifecycle of mechanical development—from concept through design, simulation, prototyping, and validation. Work with global suppliers to optimise designs and processes to support volume production. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electronics, RF, software) to ensure seamless integration and product reliability. Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and processes for mechanical product development. Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Stay ahead of industry trends in design, materials science, simulation and environmental sealing technologies. This role involves occasional travel so the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and own car. Travel expenses will be paid. What you need to succeed Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field, a Master's degree is preferred. Experience and Skills Proven leadership experience in mechanical engineering for harsh-environment products. Strong track record in designing products to IP68 or equivalent environmental standards. Proven experience in a leadership role within a mechanical engineering department. Extensive experience in the development of consumer products (mobile devices is a plus). Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering software. Proficient in CAD design tools 2D / 3D (CREO, SolidWorks), mechanical simulation tools (ANSYS). Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ability to develop and maintain good working relationships along with the confidence to challenge where necessary. Excellent organisational skills. The tenacity to achieve challenging goals. An analytical thinker with a logical and methodical approach to identifying issues and solutions. Experience with developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting KPI's. The ability to research, identify, implement and monitor innovative solutions. Good IT skills. The ability to inspire a culture of continuous improvement. #J-18808-Ljbffr
