System Administrator – Rover Breadboarding and Telecoms (1.5 years contract) HE Space is a successful international space company, specialised in providing managed services and human resources to the international space sector for over 40 years. We hire space experts across Europe for a range of activities, from engineering to science, software development, operations, marketing, finance and administration, supporting programmes such as Galileo, Copernicus, ExoMars, LISA, Euclid, Ariane and Vega launchers and the International Space Station. Our exploration rover breadboarding and telecoms satellite infrastructure is using increasingly unsupported tools and services, raising a need to manage more and more of this internal to the site/project/department. The role involves supporting both the GNC (guidance, navigation & control) and software teams, maintaining and extending systems while learning existing infrastructure as required. Responsibilities Support infrastructure for breadboarding and telecoms as required by the projects, including responsibility for maintenance and potential redeployment of older systems. Use Ansible to execute against a variety of hosts, performing install/update/upgrade operations, host environment configuration, and internal project builds for deployment on host or containers. Work with a range of breadboarding hosts (industrial PCs, workstations, VMs) that share common tasks but have individual quirks, including field travel constraints. Maintain consistent environments for the telecoms side, which relies on a large number of VMs. Qualifications BA/MA in a relevant field. Knowledge of Git for version control of scripts. Experience with Ansible for configuration control. Experience with Autoinstall or similar system deployment tools. Experience with Ubuntu 20+ or comparable Debian‑based operating systems. Experience with Podman or equivalent containerisation solutions. Hardware passthrough for graphical applications on unsupported hardware/software (e.g., Nvidia K2000 on RHEL 6). Hardware emulation (e.g., QEMU) used for development and service hosting. Configuration and installation of physical machines, including support hardware such as racking machines, acoustic dampening racks, power delivery/UPS systems and network infrastructure. Architecture design and implementation of IT systems. Security clearance required. Fluency in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
