Locum Consultant Psychiatrist (Adult) – Isle Of Dogs, Tower Hamlets East London NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist for the Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health. Job Overview General Adult Inpatient Locum Consultant Psychiatrist at Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health (linked with Isle of Dogs Neighbourhood Mental Health Team). This is a 10 PAs position covering 12 fixed‑term contact to cover paternity leave for one year. The post is within a well‑established acute psychiatric unit spread over two acute gender‑specific wards (Roman Ward for females and Lea Ward for males). The consultant will be responsible for clinical leadership and act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients. Main Duties The 1.0 WTE job plan will include 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care and 2.5 PAs for supporting programmed activities. Main duties consist of providing consultant input to inpatient wards and the Neighbourhood mental health team, assessing and reviewing patients, devising management plans, and providing clinical leadership. Detailed Job Description & Responsibilities The post‑holder provides consultant clinical leadership, assumes responsibility for patients aligned to their GP practice and those looked after by the Neighbourhood mental health service. They will: Assume Responsible Clinician status for detained patients on leave and for patients under Community Treatment Orders. Plead in compliance with the Mental Health Act and CQC requirements. Participate in assessment of patients referred to the service and in drawing up care plans addressing psychiatric, physical and social needs. Carry out detailed psychiatric assessments, accurate diagnoses and devise treatment plans including pharmacological management of psychotropic medication. Deliver evidence‑based treatments and work within a recovery approach centred on the service user. Maintain good communication with care coordinators, GP and multidisciplinary team. Person Specification Qualifications Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent. Fully registered with the General Medical Council. Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT). Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with RCPsych Guidelines). Approved Clinician status (MHA 2007) or eligibility for it. Desirable Criteria Higher degree in a relevant area. Previous experience of working on a general adult inpatient ward. Senior leadership experience. Knowledge & Experience Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level in the last three years. Experience and knowledge of psychopharmacology.Excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act.Understanding of social aspects relevant to psychiatry. Clinical Skills Ability to work and lead a multidisciplinary team. Expertise in risk formulation and evidence‑based interventions for psychosis, mood disorders and comorbidities.
