Advanced Research Engineer – Informatics Join the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) as an Advanced Research Engineer in our Informatics team and help shape the future of digital engineering. About The Role As an Advanced Research Engineer, you’ll lead and deliver cutting‑edge projects in the Informatics research area. You’ll work at the intersection of IT and OT, deploying secure infrastructure, managing Linux‑based systems, and implementing advanced monitoring solutions. Key Responsibilities Administer and maintain Linux‑based systems and virtual environments Design and manage secure infrastructure for cybersecurity monitoring Develop and integrate systems using Python or similar languages Support digital engineering projects with creative problem solving and system design Contribute to research proposals and larger bid preparations Occasionally manage projects over £50k and support project planning and risk reviews Promote MTC capabilities through publications and presentations Engage with customers to support business development What We’re Looking For Essential Skills Strong Linux system administration experience Virtualization and hypervisor lifecycle management Programming proficiency (Python or similar) Excellent report writing and presentation skills Desirable Skills Cybersecurity principles and secure environment design IT/OT networking knowledge Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, containerization, and web development Understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies What You’ll Gain Opportunity to work on pioneering research in digital manufacturing Career development through mentoring, coaching, and training Collaborative environment with leading experts and industry partners A chance to make a real impact in the UK’s advanced manufacturing sector About The MTC The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is an internationally renowned and respected research and development organisation, bridging the gap between academia and manufacturing, and is home to some of the brightest minds in engineering from around the globe.
