Help us make a difference as a Customer Site Chemist based from our site at Cambridge University.
**A quick look at the role.**
The Customer Site Chemist will visit customer locations across the University in order to identify, list and prepare for safe onward transport, of all waste streams as required by the customer. This will involve handling small containers of chemicals andpacking them into larger containers and placing them on pallets to prevent damage during transport. Pumping of liquid wastes into containers may also be required too.
The role will also support to help generate sufficient information to identify and classify waste materials so that safety and handling advice can be presented to persons handling the material.
Paramount to the role is that waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met.

- Undertaking work at University sites in and around Cambridge. This may also involve travelling to Biffa locations and nights out.
- Providing technical assistance, waste packing and collection services to the University of Cambridge.
- Maintaining a high level of housekeeping in all areas at all times whilst working.
- Keeping abreast of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and Company policy to ensure defined standards and best practice are implemented.
- Maintaining necessary documentation and inspect wastes for conformity and container integrity prior to movement. Gather and record sufficient detail that, where feasible, waste can be compliantly removed on the day to a suitable facility. Transfer sufficientdetail to company systems that will allow waste to be accepted onto site and processed. For larger jobs, record sufficient information in a manner that captures enough detail that will allow collections to be processed by stakeholders so that all waste iscollected first time.
- Creating load plans to aid drivers segregate incompatible chemicals for transport.
- Undertaking liquid pumping services from damaged / unsuitable containment into suitable containers to facilitate subsequent removal of waste from site to the customer's satisfaction.
- Responding to the Universities service requests, ensuring timely turnaround in the costing of work where you have visited a site.
- Helping to develop operating procedures and risk assessments for packing jobs at the University.
- Controlling contractors, visitors and incoming waste to the site/area where you are working.
- Promoting a positive Health and Safety Culture with conscientious near miss/Hazard spotting reporting and zero LTI's. When working on Biffa and customer sites, ensure specified PPE is utilised and work is carried out within the guidelines of the companySOP's, ensuring that any additional site PPE requirements are complied with in order to allow safe working.
- Helping the Customer Services and Sales teams resolve any queries, e.g. QLS, non-conformance that customers may have relating to a Hazpack job resulting in quick resolution of problems for transfer stations and allowing for additional charges, where applicable.

- HNC Chemistry qualification (Minimum).
- GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language.
- Degree or equivalent in Chemistry.
- ADR licence is desirable.
- IT literate - Using MS Office
- Proven record of working to clearly defined KPI's
- Experience of working in a Hazardous Waste operation.
- Knowledge & understanding of the hazards associated with chemical functional groups and relevant laws.
- Able to interpret a safety data sheet.
- Knowledge & understanding of the chemical hazards associated with COSHH symbols and associated road transport diamonds.
- Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within an time critical hazardous waste environment.
- Analytical with the ability to measure and monitor data.
- Ability to deal with conflict.
- Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues.
- Strong written and verbal Communication skills at all levels.
- Solid pragmatic approach to delivering to tight deadlines and targets.
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and on own initiative.
- The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and, most importantly, play well with other.
- Full, clean UK valid driving licence.
- A natural problem solver who always considers health and safety.
