To work within the group of Dr Kate McDole at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), providing research support for a programme investigating the morphogenesis of the early mammalian embryo.
**Main duties/ Key responsibilities**:
- To assist with basic research by preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments, analysing and interpreting results as appropriate.
- To perform a range of experiments that may include some but not necessarily all of:
- Mouse colony husbandry/genotyping.
- Manipulation, culture, and imaging and analysis of early mammalian embryos.
- Implement a range of molecular biology procedures required for the generation and analysis of transgenic mice.
- Cell culture assays (e.g. transfection, qPCR, microscopy, organoids or stem cell models).
- Basic computational tasks
- To present information on research progress and outcomes as appropriate.
- To conduct literature and database searches.
- To contribute to the production of research reports and publications.
- To ensure and maintain an efficient and tidy Laboratory.
To plan and manage your experimental work within the project along with your supervisor and other members of the project team.
To contribute to the overall preparation of research for publication.
To ensure the research is carried in accordance with good practice and in compliance with local polices and legal requirements.
To contribute to the smooth running of the research group, including the effective use of resources, training of others and taking responsibility for use of communal facilities.
**Working relationships**:
You will report to Dr Kate McDole. You will interact and collaborate with Postdoctoral Scientists, Research Support Staff and Students, not only in your Group, but also across the LMB and with external Groups as necessary.

- **Education / qualifications / training required**:
- Desirable:_ Relevant Masters or equivalent relevant laboratory experience
**Previous work experience required**:
- Essential:_
- Basic bench work skills
- Experience or theoretical knowledge of basic molecular biology skills/techniques (eg PCR, gene cloning)
- Desirable:_
- Previous experience in the field of development, particular emphasis on mammalian development and mouse colony administration.
- Experimental techniques relevant to the role, which could include (though not limited to):
- Dissection, embryo culture and manipulation
- Whole-mount fixation, immunostaining, and imaging
- Cell-culture
- Mouse models
- Fluorescence microscopy experience
- Knowledge of computational/image analysis methods such as Fiji/ImageJ. Matlab or python experience would be an additional bonus
- Animal colony administration/interpreting genotyping results
