**Purpose of the Facilities Officer**:

- The Facilities Officer helps ensure that all learners, staff and visitors receive an outstanding experience in the College buildings and grounds at all times by making them feel respected and welcome in clean, safe, smart, comfortable and appropriatelyequipped and resourced environments.
- The Facilities Officer must adopt a pro-active and creative approach to the role that will help maintain the security, cleanliness and safety of the buildings and all the facilities and resources within them.
- The Facilities Officer will be one of the first point of call staff members to provide first aid, security, alarm response, emergency maintenance and incident first response service
- The Facilities Officer will provide essential support to the Facilities Supervisor and Head of Facilities in monitoring and logging health and safety compliance.
- The Facilities Officer, along with the Maintenance Supervisor will help ensure that the Facilities Assistants are fully supported whilst undertaking more complex tasks and will be required to assist in their training in reaching a competent level, wherenecessary.

**Main duties and responsibilities of the Facilities Officer**:
Customer Care
- To walk the buildings and grounds frequently, ensuring that all indoor and outdoor areas are clean, tidy and free of litter.All tasks identified that can't be undertaken on the spot must be immediately logged on the actions database and followed through.
- To support learners and staff requiring assistance to access the buildings or move around within them.
- To provide first aid response for learners, staff and visitors as necessary.For this purpose postholders must hold, and maintain up to date, a full First Aid at Work qualification.
- To ensure that the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the sites by removing spillages and ensuring supplies are replaced in toilets and kitchens in a timely manner, in the absence of cleaning contract staf

Security
- To act as a key holder for College premises and operate the security alarm, whilst also being on the call out list for out of hours emergencies.
- To ensure appropriate access is available by unlocking and opening buildings thoroughly and checking the effective operation of fire exits, lifts, corridor doors, and correct positioning of them for operational use.
- To carry out the effective and efficient closure and locking up of the buildings, ensuring that the building is completely empty of occupants, windows are shut and secured, equipment is switched off, all exits are securely locked and the security alarmis set.
- To respond swiftly to all calls by staff for assistance with a security or unacceptable behaviour concern, assessing the situation and providing calm, proportionate and assured responses as appropriate.
- To provide an informal security presence whilst patrolling the College premises or being based in Reception during enrolment and other busy periods as reasonably requested.
- Not to put yourself in a position of danger or personal risk.

Health and Safety
- The postholder must ensure that they are familiar with the College's Health and Safety Policy, procedures and practices and carry out their role and responsibilities in compliance with them at all times.
- To attend health and safety training courses as necessary and ensure that the training and learning is put into practice in day to day activities.These include but are not restricted to manual handling, working at height, fire safety, CoSHH, lone working,ladder safety and legionella.
- To support the orderly evacuation of the building in the event of a fire or other emergency.
- To be familiar with the operation of, and messages appearing on, the fire control panel and to assist in the investigation of any alarms, supporting and guiding fire brigade or other emergency response services as requested.
- To understand the difference types of fire extinguisher and know when and how to use each one and other types of fire-fighting equipment.
- To ensure that all fire escape routes are clear and unobstructed at all times.
- To identify any potential hazards whilst walking around the building and ensure that they are logged and followed up.
- To support the Facilities Supervisor and Head of Facilities in ensuring that Risk Assessments are regularly reviewed and updated, in particular checking that any mitigating control actions identified in the risk assessments are operating effectively.

Repairs and Maintenance
- To identify and undertake repairs, inspections and maintenance tasks, leading on these projects, as well as other refurbishments / minor projects at both sites.
- To respond to tickets logged on the helpdesk system in a timely manner and update the database promptly.
- To carry out regular maintenance checks as requested by the Facilities Supervisor or Head of Facilities and ensure the outcomes are properly recorded in logs.
- To know the location of isolation switches for gas, electricity and water to the buildings and be able to operate them in an emergency or precautionary situation.
- To be familiar with the induction and permit to work processes for contractors and ensure they are followed and adhered to when contractors arrive, work on and leave site.
- Know the location of the asbestos register and other appropriate registers and ensure they
