Practical Assistant

First Class Support provides academic support to students of all ages and abilities. We pride ourselves on only employing first class support workers that are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people studying higher education courses across the UK.
Due to continued expansion, we are looking to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. There is currently a position available for a practical support worker to carry our company name.
Your role:
**This role is based in Guildford, Surrey.**
You will provide practical and mobility support to assist a student with a physical and/or psychological impairment in manoeuvring around. This could include helping to manipulate a wheelchair, carrying books, IT equipment etc. It similarly include general orientation and finding out where things are located for students whose disability means that they have problems with orientation.
Your role will also include ‘social Support’ in order to ensure access to the wider aspects of student life, for example for a student on the autism spectrum who had difficulty with social interaction.
While some of these tasks, such as carrying equipment for a student with mobility difficulties, will need to continue throughout a student’s course, others, such as general orientation, should decrease as the student becomes more able to manage independently. In many cases you may have to work closely with care staff from other agencies, so it is vital that you can communicate information clearly and efficiently, this student will also need some scribe support in some instances.
Your Skills: You will possess experience/understanding of providing support for disabled adults and demonstrate a willing to gain thorough knowledge of the campus. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to act independently to benefit the academic experience of the student(s).
Your qualifications/training: You will be educated to GCSE level and demonstrate a bright and enthusiastic demeanour towards academia. Thus, no mandatory qualifications or professional body membership is required.

The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and the academic timetable. We are seeking support workers who are currently self-employed, or in the process of registering as a self-employed professional.
