What does the role involve?
You will head the Payroll and Pensions Team for the University and be a key part of the Finance Leadership Team.
Key Requirements of the Role
- Leading the delivery and development of activity and systems within Payroll and Pensions. Including making specific recommendations around business change ensuring the service meets the University and customer needs.
- Collaborative working - Work with Senior HR, Finance and Academic leaders, develop and lead the University’s Payroll and Pension service for its entire workforce.
- Leadership - Direct and influence through professional credibility the development of practice, new benefits, effective ways of working and practical service delivery.
- Specialist Knowledge - Lead on specialist advice, information and statistics on payroll and pension issues to senior managers, auditors, contractors and other authorised persons in order to aid decision making, budgeting and staffing.

Profile
Significant experience in payroll and pensions in a leadership role
- Confident user of Microsoft Office products and ERPs
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and Pension AMPI or equivalent professional body (preferred)
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

About the Team
The Department of Finance develops and implements dynamic and future focused financial strategies to support the University’s aims, whilst maintaining sound financial oversight and administration in managing the University’s financial affairs. In helping to manage these resources and in continuing to invest in people and facilities we believe that we can create the right environment whereby the University can continue to flourish. We contribute across all areas of the University’s activity and work in partnership with colleagues to support them in their activities.
The Head of Payroll and Pensions will report into the Head of Financial Services. This is a newly created role. You will have responsibility for leading and managing two diverse teams within the office. You will provide specialist knowledge and advice on payroll and pension, alongside the development of strategy and policies. You will work to ensure the service provision meets customer and business requirements, identifying and delivering change where necessary. You would also be responsible for providing management information and analysis about payroll and pensions.
