**Solicitor responsibilities**:
As a Solicitor within the Legal Team you will develop good working relationships with the operational, retail and developer services parts of the business to enable you to provide practical and tailored legal services to them

Your responsibilities will include
- Supporting the operation of the companies networks, and the protection of related assets, by advising on and managing contentious land, property and planning matters
- Advising on the companies statutory powers and responsibilities in relation to its water and sewerage assets, for example, to support obtaining access to them and their development
- Preparing cases to support the company in the exercise of its statutory powers of prosecution where its assets have been compromised or placed at risk
- Supporting Estates and Capital Delivery teams in facilitating and delivering the companies Asset Management Programme, to enable the enhancement and maintenance of its networks and to support its ambition of becoming a world class, resilient and sustainablewater service for future generations
- Advising on the companies statutory charging powers and supporting claims for unpaid charges to ensure that its essential services can continued to be funded
- Advising on environmental law and working with Counsel on related contentious matters
- Supporting teams to prepare responses to complaints from customers and third parties that require legal interpretation
- Drafting and reviewing contracts to ensure that goods and services are purchased on commercially sound and risk appropriate terms
- Supervising junior colleagues and supporting the development of the legal team and the wider business by preparing training, guidance and know-how

**About you**
- Be a qualified Solicitor with 3+ years PQE (PQE is a guide only - other relevant skills and experience will be considered) and working in a city or regionally based firm, or an in-house legal team
- Demonstrable relevant experience covering at least some of the areas listed above, but having contentious property experience is essential, and being prepared to develop your practice in respect of the remainder
- Water industry knowledge (desirable but not essential)
- Understand the legislative competence of the company
- Be able to deliver accurate and reliable advice, in a user-friendly format, whilst building in practical solutions
- Be a self-starter, highly motivated and proactive in developing your skills and knowledge
- Be able to work to tight deadlines, react quickly, and remain calm under pressure
