Applications are being sought for a suitably qualified Band 6 Young Persons Eating Disorders Clinical Specialist. This position is suitable for qualified mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, clinical associate psychologists (CAPs) or counsellors with additional training, experience or a special interest in eating disorders and / or working with adolescents and young adults. The job would be ideal for an individual who is committed to team working and has the flexibility to work with clients who may be resistant or ambivalent about change on a one-to-one basis as well as in groups. The post holder will work closely with an experienced multi-disciplinary team who will provide ongoing training, supervision and support. The post holder will provide advice and consultation to primary care, mental health teams and other relevant agencies.

This is an exciting time to join the service as we are developing closer working relations with a voluntary sector provider (SYEDA - South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association) and the NHS provider Sheffield Children's Foundation Trust's specialist eating disorders service (up to 16 years). Collectively these providers will form the ASERT (All age Sheffield Eating disorder Recovery Team) Pathway.

The post holder will work primarily with out-patients to deliver Family Based Treatment (FBT / FT-AN) for eating disorders which includes weight monitoring as part of the intervention.

In addition to the above, the post holder will also undertake assessments (on-line, phone and in person) and develop treatment care packages for service users with eating disorders and their carers, in collaboration with the MDT. The post holder may also be asked to have a limited role in delivering group work in the day service element of ASERT pathway, which operates three days per week or other ED interventions as highlighted from the assessment of the client. The post holder will work in partnership with service users and other agencies to ensure effective liaison and communication and create effective working relationships with members of staff in each of the three teams: SEDS, SYEDA and SEDATT.

This post will involve working across our partner organisations SYEDA & Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Trust. All teams in the pathway are multidisciplinary teams committed to supporting recovery for those with eating difficulties.

Responsibilities will be split between delivering initial assessments, primarily family-based treatment (FBT / FT-AN) to service users in the outpatient service. Other duties include group work interventions, acting as key worker to Day service clients or other ED interventions as highlighted from the assessment of the client. In addition, the post involves liaising with Acute Wards and Specialist Units regarding the needs of patients e.g. patients requiring transitioning into services or admission into these units/wards. Responsibilities include the following:
Clinical

1. To provide a specialist clinical service in eating disorders, including initial assessment and managing an agreed caseload. This will include:
1. Participating in daily triage of referrals with other Team members where referrals are screened for suitability for assessment by one of the teams in ASERT or referral on to the most appropriate treatment in line with care pathway.
2. Undertaking specialist initial assessments, including risk assessment as part of the Scheduled Care Pathway. Reporting back on the outcome of assessments to the MDT and developing treatment packages based on a collaborative formulation of the clients’ needs.
3. Delivering evidence-based treatments including monitoring risk, providing psycho education and engaging and motivating clients in working towards agreed treatment goals. Ensure that all clients have a clearly defined and agreed collaborative care plan, designed to meet their needs and to provide the agreed intervention.
4. Monitoring the physical health and wellbeing of clients with eating disorders and liaising where appropriate with primary care and other SERT
5. Collecting relevant data e.g. PROMS to evaluate and review treatment at appropriate intervals using both client’s self report
