**About the team**:
This role is part of the Workplace Health and Safety Office; an impartial, independent and institutional team within the Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities [DTEF]

The team are experienced health and safety practitioners and support staff providing a centralised service of advice, guidance and support in all aspects of workplace health and safety across the University. This service also provides fire safety advisory support to the University in achieving the highest standards of health and safety (including fire) management and performance, ensuring statutory fire safety obligations are fulfilled by enabling staff to understand and effectively manage fire risks associated with their work activities.

**About the role**:
As appointed ‘competent’ person under the regulatory reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, you will oversee all aspects of fire safety management, including design, refurbishment, and answering project-specific fire queries. You will also be part of the corporate team of Health and Safety professionals working to develop, implement and continually drive improvement and be the lead contact for the Fire Service and other enforcing authorities in relation to fire safety at the University.

In your role you will be responsible for providing fire safety advice; establishing an effective fire safety management system, and providing strategic support to senior managers of departments and subsidiaries across the University of York. You will offer high quality fire safety technical assistance, in accordance with appropriate standards for fire precautions, relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and maintain positive relationships across the University.

As a member of this team, you will report to the Director of Health and Safety, work closely with the Head of Safety Operations, DTEF as well as leading and managing a team of Health and Safety professionals

You will be assisting the Director with comprehensive reports on managing fire safety for the University according to the University's Health and Safety Policy and Management Procedures. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing the University's fire safety guidance, training, monitoring, support, and advice.

**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:

- Professional Fire Safety Management qualification or equivalent
- Sufficient professional experience of undertaking Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) and be a recorded upon the Register of Fire Risk Assessors
- Knowledge and practical experience of current legislation and best practice relating to Health, Fire Safety legislation
- Evidence of upholding our behaviours as detailed within the accompanying person specification.
