We have an opportunity available for a **Mechanical Design Engineer** to join our team on a **full time, permanent basis**. This role is based role at our Monmouth Scientific Head Office**, Bridgwater, Somerset**. In return, you will receive a **competitive salary plus**2**5 days holiday per full calendar year, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays.**

**Monmouth Scientific Limited (MSL)** is a market leading UK based manufacturer of clean air solutions (Fume Cabinets, Biological Safety Cabinets, Laminar Air Flow and ISO Class Cleanroom solutions) for a diverse market base including laboratory,research, pharmaceutical, electronics and aerospace.

MSL employs over 80 people and are part of the SDI Group who specialise in the scientific industry.

**Summary of duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include**:

- Conceiving, designing & developing new products and technologies in line with brief and budget constraints
- Producing designs, drawings and documentation in full compliance with relevant product and design standards
- Playing an integrated role within the multi-disciplined technical department

**Key skills responsibilites of our Mechanical Design Engineer**:

- Taking personal responsibility for a project and using your own initiative, see it through from initial brief to final release
- Generation and maintenance of detailed manufacturing drawings, general assemblies & Bills of Materials
- Produce supporting technical documentation and product manuals
- Maintaining product support throughout its life cycle including cost-down and design for manufacture reviews
- Designing and developing product test methods and conduct internal testing related to R&D activities
- Assisting and providing technical support to other departments

**Key skills & personal attributes we are looking for in our Mechanical Design Engineer**:
**Essential**
- Strong conceptual and design skills with the ability to produce creative and innovative solutions for the given project
- Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks) with experience of producing detailed engineering drawings with good understanding of drawing standards and tolerances
- Excellent knowledge and experience of current manufacturing processes and techniques using a range of materials and methods including, but not exclusively, sheet metal, fabricated plastic and machined parts
- Solid understanding and experience of a wide range of complimentary engineering disciplines and general systems integration
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to prioritise and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards regarding quality of work
- Confident & effective communication and listening skills, on the telephone and in person with ability to liaise at all levels with clients and external suppliers
- Educated to HND / Degree level or equivalent
- Microsoft office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Calm and professional disposition, self-motivated and enthusiastic, willing to accept responsibility
- Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines, with mínimal management supervision
- Possess a flexible work ethic, be willing to support other departments as and when required and have a general can-do attitude

**Desirable**
- Legacy 2d CAD skills
- Experience of other areas such as Electrical, Air handling and Fluid transfer
