This Food Technology teaching role is focused on raising attainment with children aged 11-16 who all have an EHCP for their Social, Emotional and Mental Health.It is an all-boys provision, encapsulating the culture and wide disparities in terms of class andwealth, that can be found anywhere in the UK, shown here in Newham.They have capacity for over 85 boys and girls, when at capacity, taking children in from across the boroughs of East London.The children who get accepted are very fortunate due to the outstandingnature of the school, even if their personal and home contexts do not reflect this.
The school has recently been graded as ‘**good’** in key categories such as leadership and management and behaviour.The school has a very focused, caring, and restorative approach, this is not a school in which the teachers and support staffraise their voices - that would be the wrong tone and approach.
The Alternative Provision has outstanding facilities in all areas, including their kitchen and Food Tech set up, there is a real and concerted effort on key and functional skills.The school is incredibly sincere in this aim, they are not a ‘tick box’ schooland do not pursue grades for the sake of it.They want to give the boys skill sets that will translate into their adulthood and life, hoping where possible to give them an alternative career to the destructive path that they may be on.
They also offer a restorative, therapeutic approach to education and behaviour management, they want their children engaged in key and personal skills, giving the children skills they can use in and out of school.
As a **Food Technology Teacher Newham**, you will be working in classes of 3-6 pupils with a staff to student ratio of 1:1.It’s a wonderful place to work, focus on positive reinforcement, that’s the only approach to have here.
Making learning fun and accessible for the higher function and low function students, 8% of the students are autistic or have associated Special Needs, attached to their mental health challenges.
The school and teaching approach is very fluid, the boys will not always be in the right frame of mind for a structured lesson, at any time before or after school, they could have been through a trauma or not had a productive evening.

**Requirements**:

- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Role is open to SEMH specialists or Mainstream teachers who can show their credentials to flourish in a SEMH and AP context.
- Instructors or individuals with SEMH experience and Cooking/Food Technology credentials
- Empathy - Building relationships before diving into the Food and academic content of your lessons.
- Available to trial and interview immediately, 5 days a week, Monday to Friday
- Knowledge, keen interest or understanding of the range of different types of learning and behavioural needs (SEMH, PRU)
- Ability to adapt to various working environments and students with differing abilities and unpredictable behaviour.
