Operations Geologist

**Job description**:
Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Operations Geologist, based in Aberdeen.

**Responsibilities**:
Attend subsurface well planning meetings
Understand and clarify well objectives.
Support analysis of offset wells for potential geo-hazards, and formation related issues (e.g. over-pressured shales, kicks/losses).
Identify and support operational requirements to meet well objectives, e.g. geosteering, gas analysis systems, pore-pressure monitoring.
Provide advice on best practice regarding data acquisition (logging, sampling frequency, coring, biostratigraphy etc.).
Engage with stakeholders on contracting strategy for wellsite services.
Provide input for SOR-1 to SOR-2 documents as requested (primarily FE, and formation sampling programs).

Define
Provide input to Geological Well Proposals and/or SOR documents as required.
Formation Evaluation (FE) programme: contribute to specific programme features based on regional experience from offset wells and well objectives.Liaise with Drilling & Completions, Formation Evaluation Advisor to ensure good communication regarding the FE programme.

Prepare To Execute
Create and populate a well specific Geological Programme based on the final SoR / Well
Proposal with the most up to date information available before spudding the well.
Distribute to rig, CoVs, named persons, Teams (Onedrive), ASSAIweb or other project-associated web-based portals.
Establish communication/reporting protocol
Offshore - Wellsite Geologist
Onshore - Geological Subsurface Team
Onshore - Drilling & Completion
Establish partner contacts/Teams (Onedrive) used for transfer of data to partners, establish partner data/sampling requirements.
Co-ordinate with 3rd party Wellsite Geologist.
Ensure that the final Geological Programme and/or Well Proposal / SoR2 is available offshore for the WSGs along with all relevant offset logs.
Ensure that WSGs have a comprehensive pre-well briefing and facilitate their attendance of the pre-spud meetings (DWOP, LWOP, CWOP, WWOP).
Ensure Realtime data streaming service from rig (e.g. Petrolink / Welllink / InterAct / CENTRO) is set up and that the required people have access to viewing software & information.
Assist with facilitating and attend LWOP, DWOP, CWOP, WWOP and Pre-spud meetings.
Ensure data acquisition requirements are clear & service providers are ready for delivery.

WELL DRILLING (EXECUTE / MEETINGS)
07:00-09:00hrs attend rig conference 'phone calls & discussions with wellsite.
Attend meetings with Development subsurface teams (as needed).

Reporting
Daily dissemination of morning reports a.s.a.p. e.g. Lookahead, Mudlogging, LWD, Wireline digital data, WSG Lithlogs & Reports, distributed internally and to partners. Ensure all reports are filed correctly on CLR, Team (Onedrive) and Livelink daily.

Monitoring
24/7 monitoring of progress and prepare for data acquisition logs, core etc.
Contribute to well behaviour interpretation (i.e. gas-response, wellbore stability, pore
- pressure), and provide custom products (e.g. cavings log/lithlogs) to assist the asset if required.
QC of daily WSG and associated 3rd Party data/reports/services.
Assist Drilling Engineers and Drilling Superintendent in picking casing points based on well design criteria.
Inform subsurface teams of upcoming operations and ensure they are prepared to provide input to communications with offshore team.
Agile response to any unforeseen issues.

Logistics
Co-ordinate WSG, wireline/Biostratigraphy/Chemostratigraphy and other geologically related 3rd party specialists. QAQC personnel travel/transport.
Maintain a complete inventory of all mudlogging related samples, including: cuttings, biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, core, fluid & gas samples (including isotubes).
Ensure the safe dispatch and track all mudlogging-related samples from the rig to COMPANY archive storage and partners.
Dispatch/track core and formation fluid/gas samples from rig to storage facilities/laboratory for analysis.
Communicate logistics issues to stakeholders.

REPORTING (POST WELL REVIEW)
Prepare and issue Geological EOWR - (NSTA to receive within 6 months of well completion /P&A operations via the company's Information and Samples Coordinator).
- Obtain relevant approvals from subsurface team.
Prepare and issue Composite Logs.
- Obtain relevant approvals from subsurface team.
Participate in well wash up/lessons learned /post-well audits.
QC 3rd Party EOWRs and Logs.
Well Files/Livelink/CLR -ensure data and reports are uploaded to correct well file.

ADMINISTRATION: WELL FILES/DOCUMENTATION/ UPDATE OF PROCEDURES /WGS CONTRACTS
Ensure that key procedures and associated documents are updated/reviewed annually
(update Jan-Feb: all key documents should reside in the UKMS)

- Maintain overview of main suppliers and review contracts as required together with Supply Chain/procurement
