**Responsibilities**:

- In conjunction with other instrument operators and support staff, the organisation and processing of the daily workload to meet the agreed work schedules and targets. To ensure that all processes are performed in accordance with documented methods and procedures.
- Analysis of samples through the use of an ICP-OES Spectrometer.
- Correct interpretation of spectral data, in conjunction with QC standards, to ensure the correct results are reported.
- When required, the preparation of calibration standards and/or interference standards required for the analysis of submitted sample solutions.
- Ensuring all equipment that the post holder uses on a regular basis are kept clean and in good working order at all times. In cases where equipment is found to be working unsatisfactorily it is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the supervisor ordeputy so that repair or maintenance can be arranged.
- Ensuring that the operational area and any equipment used within the department is kept clean at all times. In cases were equipment is found to be working unsatisfactorily, it is the post holders responsibility to inform the Supervisor/Departmental Managerso that repair or maintenance can be organized.
- Maintain record keeping in such a way that work is clearly auditable & traceable, within the guidelines of AHK’s 17025 accreditation.
- Undertaking other duties of an appropriate nature, in consultation with the UK Laboratory Manager, ICP Manager, ICP Operations Manager (and/or their deputies).
- Maintain a professional standard and appearance during office hours, while promoting the company and when on company business.
- Ensure the company’s Health & Safety policy is being applied within all laboratory areas under the post holder’s purview, informing the Laboratory Director of serious breaches or systematic failure of policy.

- Partake in individual performance reviews and PDR meetings.
- Plan, prioritize work in order to achieve results of a high standard and on time.

**Communication**
- Ensure effective and timely communications between peer group, other departments and line manager.
- Actively encourage effective communication with your team

**Person Specification**:

- Three or more years extensive hands on experience with an ICP-OES Spectrometer.
- Experience creating and validating instrument methods.
- Strong team player with a collaborative approach and work ethic who can demonstrate a diplomatic and measured approach through leading by example and encouraging others.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy and to be numerate.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work under own initiative in a dynamic work environment with changing daily priorities.
- The ability to develop the skills and knowledge within the laboratory to create an environment where knowledge sharing is a priority.
- Able to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity and can occasionally carry loads of up to 10Kg without issue.
- Able to focus on meeting given deadlines.
- Able to communicate effectively in a range of different formats.

**Required Work Experience**:

- Three or more years extensive hands on experience with an ICP-OES Spectrometer. Modern Agilent or Thermo instruments preferred, though not essential. Addition spectrometer knowledge (ICP-MS, AAS, etc..) would be beneficial, though again, not essential.
