**About this client/child**:
Sarah is a lovely little girl who enjoys swimming, watching TV and playing in her sensory room. She lives with her mum and dad and little brother. Sarah loves the sensory feedback she gets from big movements such as trampolining, climbing and jumping and spinning
- and she loves to spin very fast She uses these big movements to self-regulate. Sarah has a brain injury secondary to meningitis at birth. She has a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), and significant sensoryprocessing needs. Sarah can find the world a scary place; she has a visual impairment and is non-verbal, communicating with very basic and inconsistent hand leading, so cannot clearly express herself. She is hyper-sensitive to noise and communication needsto be at a low-level and indirect to Sarah. Sarah needs consistency and structure to make sense of her world. Her behaviour at times, can seem ‘challenging’, but this is an expression of a frightened child. Sarah will initiate contact/closeness with othersif she is comfortable to do so, it takes time to get to know her, and for her to know new people.

**Overview of role**:
Sarah has significant needs; this will be an interesting role for someone who really wants to make a difference and utilise their SEN skills. If Sarah’s needs are understood, many of the triggers that initiate frightening situations for her, can be avoided. You will be part of a team that includes input from highly experienced therapists who are experts in their field. You will have the opportunity to implement techniques and therapies that are expected to be hugely beneficial for Sarah. After school, Sarah maychoose to go to her sensory room or watch TV, her activities are self-driven. Your role will be to support her care needs; Sarah is in pads and needs all personal care. With no awareness of danger, Sarah needs to be monitored to ensure her safety; this maybe at a distance if she is not comfortable to have you too close. CCTV is set up around the house so she can be safely monitored from a distance. You’ll make Sarah’s dinner; she will eat finger foods herself. During school holidays and weekends, there is timeto take Sarah out, to go swimming for example. This is a job share: Alternate weekends, 9.00am to 7.30pm, term-time, 3.00pm to 7.30pm, school holidays 3 days 9.00am to 7.30pm. Please state your availability when applying.

**Who this job would suit**:
This role will suit a patient, dedicated support worker (male or female) who has excellent SEN experience and the desire to learn. You will be confident, caring and committed to help this little girl reach her potential.

**What’s great about this job**:
You will work with professionals who have amazing expertise. You will receive excellent training and be well supported by a case manager. The family are friendly, laid back and welcoming. Your input will help make a little girl’s world a much less scary place.
