**How you can make a difference**

Sense has been supporting people who are deafblind and have complex disabilities in Northern Ireland for 30 years. At our accessible centre in Mallusk, we offer services for adults with complex disabilities. Our Friday Club is for adults aged approximately 45 to 75+ and takes place every week between 11am and 1:30pm.

Friday Club started as covid ended. Lots of our older people had attended clubs before the pandemic, and they were so successful we knew we needed to run something similar again. We saw a need for a safe space to combat loneliness and isolation after lockdown. Friday Club is a welcoming place for people to meet, socialise, make new friends, and learn new skills, but most of all relax and have fun in a safe space.

We are looking for volunteers to join our team to help set up the session, support us and then clear up too. You’ll be helping with activities and crafts, including painting, weaving, and dancing. We also like to go out and about, as our group are really enjoy shopping, going out for meals and visiting places like the Titanic Centre. Our aim is to develop and maintain social networks, and above all, have a lot of fun

Many people with additional needs feel lonely and, by giving a small amount of your time, you can make a big difference. You do not need to have any previous experience working with people with disabilities as we will provide you with training and ongoing support, to equip you for your role. One of our trained team will be always with you.

**What your role will involve**
- Helping to set up the day’s session (art, craft etc), or prepare for our trips.
- Welcoming the people that we support and helping them get settled.
- Helping with refreshments: tea and coffee, making and serving lunch (sandwiches, tea, coffee, cake).
- Assisting and joining in in with the day’s task and fun activities.
- Helping with tidying up and clearing away.

A standard / enhanced Disclosure & Barring check will be required for this volunteer role, which will support you with if you don’t already have one.
