Permanent
Office/Home Hybrid Working
Do you want to be a part of a growing Infrastructure Design team? Can you collaborate on projects? Are you a Chartered Engineer? Then, read on. This could be the next adventure in your career.
Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
To further strengthen our Rail & Highways project teams, we are looking for Principal Drainage Engineers to join us. You'll be working across a portfolio of rail or highways projects across the UK, as well as the opportunity to support across different sectors and our projects across the globe.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Managing and coordinating delivery of your projects to time and budget, ensuring a high standard of technical quality and compliance with our internal management systems across the entire project lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design, including site supervision where required.
- Production of drainage designs, assessments or checking work, including preparation or checking of calculations, written reports, specifications and other contract deliverables.
- Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice.
- Supervising a team of engineers and technicians, mentoring, and developing less experienced engineers and technicians within your project teams, working with line managers to maximise training and development opportunities.
- Developing and maintaining Client relationships through your project work, including identifying and realising any potential business opportunities.
- Assisting with the preparation of bids and tenders and supporting the Directors in pursuing business development opportunities.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
On top of that, you'll have:
- Achieved Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) status with experience working on multi-disciplinary projects in a railway design and build environment or on highways drainage design, including understanding engineering interdependencies across the project life cycle.
- Evidence of undertaking previous CRE(Drainage) roles under the Engineering Management for Project standard (NR/L2/RSE/02009) would be advantageous for our Rail projects.
- Evidence of leading teams and working in multi-disciplinary projects in rail, highways, or water sectors.
- Skilled analytical ability and a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, current design standards and the latest drainage design tools and software.
- Experience of undertaking or specifying drainage surveys.
- Experience of catchment analysis, hydraulic design, pumping station design and legislative requirements.
- The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients and contractors.
- Good team leadership skills with the ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
- A sound understanding and experience in the application of the CDM Regulations and risk assessment process including knowledge of current standards and legislation, including application of the Common Safety Method.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world. We do it by applying our knowledge and curiosity - and sometimes even our courage - to create the solutions the world needs today to enable a better tomorrow. That is why we say no to fossil-based projects and aspire to have 100% of our revenue come from activities that move our customers towards sustainability.
We value differences and development and cultivate an environment of belonging and having fun. Because that is what brings out the best in you, at work and at home.
What we also offer:
To us, a fair reward is more than a competitive salary. We want to take care of our people professionally and personally as well.
- 28 days' holiday plus all UK bank and public holidays.
- Formalised development plans and yearly promotion opportunities.
- Private health care, for you and your immediate dependents.
- Flexible and hybrid working conditions.
- Annual subscription fees paid for your membership of two Professional Institutions.
- Group personal pension scheme - salary exchange.
- Life assurance.
- Cycle-to-work scheme.
- Corporate gym membership.
